How to find an in-home caregiver in Cerritos
Half of all Cerritos households include someone 65 or older (50.4% in ACS 2020–2024), so you are far from the only family here working this out. The city has built a good deal of support around older residents: a senior center at Pat Nixon Park with daily lunch, a care management program and Medicare counseling; a Dial-A-Ride for residents 55 and up; and an affordable assisted-living community, Ivy Park at Cerritos. A private caregiver usually covers what those services do not: mornings and evenings at home, bathing, medication reminders, and company on the days a parent does not go out. Write your post around those gaps, with exact hours and the cross streets nearest your home.
Say which language your parent is most comfortable in. Among residents five and older, 39.4% speak an Asian or Pacific Islander language at home and 17.4% speak one while rating their English below "very well"; 10.3% speak Spanish. Listing the language in the first line of your post helps the right applicants answer. Profiles below are ordered by how close each caregiver lives to 90703, and the list grows as caregivers complete their profiles.

Evaluating caregivers in Cerritos
Cerritos applicants often come from the healthcare side: the city has 16 home health agencies and 13 hospices on CDPH's October 2026 file, so some applicants will have agency or hospice experience. If someone says they are a certified nursing assistant or home health aide, get the certificate number and confirm it in CDPH's online lookup. If they come through one of the 15 home care organizations based in Cerritos, ask the office for proof that the aide is on the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry. IHSS providers will have passed the county's fingerprint check and orientation. For anyone, call two past employers, ask what the hardest day was like, and pay for a trial shift with a family member present. CaregiverConnect does not screen caregivers or verify credentials; any background check is yours to order, with the caregiver's written permission.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Can you speak with my father in his own language, and give me a short note in English at the end of each day?
- Would you go with Mom on Dial-A-Ride to her doctor and help her in and out of the van?
- Have you worked alongside a hospice team, and how did you share what you saw with the nurse?
- Could you take Dad to lunch at the senior center on South Street and pick him up afterward?
- How do you keep someone with memory loss calm in the late afternoon?
- Are you on the Home Care Aide Registry, or would you be willing to register?
- If my mother is approved for IHSS, will you become her provider?

| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Cerritos has no local minimum wage in the UC Berkeley Labor Center inventory, so if you hire a caregiver yourself the legal floor is the state rate of $16.90; the county's $18.47 rate applies to unincorporated communities, not to Cerritos. Useful markers: the $16.50 regional median for home health and personal care aides (BLS, May 2025), the $19.64 that Los Angeles County IHSS pays providers, and CareScout's $40 statewide median for an hour of agency homemaker care. Hiring a personal attendant directly also means overtime after nine hours a day or 45 a week. The city's median household income in ACS 2020–2024 is $135,439, but IHSS can still help: CDSS requires a Medi-Cal eligibility determination, and DPSS takes applications on (888) 944-4477.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
