How to find an in-home caregiver in Buena Park

When you post from a Buena Park ZIP code (90620 or 90621), the posting reaches caregivers whose travel radius includes your address. New family postings show up above as they go live, and profiles of nearby caregivers are added as people sign up. A clear posting names the days and hours, the tasks on a normal day (bathing, meals, medications, rides), whether anyone in the home smokes or keeps a dog, and whether the caregiver needs a car.

Name the language your relative relaxes in. In Buena Park, 52.0% of residents age five and up speak a non-English language in the household, including 25.9% who speak Spanish and 22.1% who speak an Asian or Pacific Islander language. A parent who follows every word during a shower or a medication change is calmer, so put the language in the first line.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Buena Park

Applicants may hold IHSS provider status from Orange County (which required Live Scan fingerprints through the Public Authority), a CNA certificate, a CDSS Home Care Aide Registry number if they have worked for an agency, or a NOCE Personal Care Aide Certificate. Ask to see the document rather than taking a profile line on trust. Next, meet at the house so your relative takes part, call two earlier employers, and pay for one trial shift before you commit to a weekly schedule. No background checks are run by CaregiverConnect; a check you arrange yourself needs the caregiver's signed consent.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • My mother speaks mostly Korean (or Spanish). How comfortable are you using that language for bathing, toileting and medications?
  • Have you helped someone home from La Palma Intercommunity Hospital or Providence St. Jude, and how did you handle that first week at home?
  • Can you take my father to the Senior Activity Center on Knott Avenue for his classes and wait or come back for him?
  • Suppose my mother pushes away her afternoon pills. What then?
  • Have you ever been an IHSS provider in Orange County?
  • When you are ill, how soon will you tell us, and who might fill in?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Buena Park: hourly rates and schedules

Many Buena Park families start with a fixed block, such as weekday mornings for bathing, breakfast and medications, and add hours later. Adult children who commute often post a late-afternoon shift that covers dinner and the evening routine. After a hospital stay, budget for longer days or overnight cover for two or three weeks. If a spouse is doing most of the care, a regular weekly respite block lets them keep their own appointments or attend the monthly caregiver support group at the senior center.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Buena Park sets no wage of its own, leaving California's $16.90 an hour as the floor when you hire a caregiver yourself. Orange County pays IHSS providers $18.90, and CareScout's 2025 survey found a $40.00 hourly median for agency home care statewide, so a direct hire stays well under agency pricing even at a higher private rate. Overtime for a personal attendant begins after hour nine of a shift or hour 45 of a week (state Domestic Worker Bill of Rights) and is paid at 1.5 times the rate; payroll taxes for household employers can also come into play.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
