How to find an in-home caregiver in Cypress
Most Cypress families combine several kinds of help. The city's senior center on Grindlay Street serves lunch and runs classes on weekdays, two licensed adult day health care centers operate on Lincoln Avenue, and Meals on Wheels delivers to homebound residents. A private caregiver fills the time around those: getting your father up, washed and dressed before the day center, staying through the afternoon, cooking dinner, or covering the weekend when nothing else runs. A post that names those hours ("weekdays 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. in 90630, help with shower and dressing") gets better-matched replies than "need a caregiver".
Say which language your parent is most comfortable in. In ACS 2020–2024, 43.3% of Cypress residents five and older speak a language other than English at home, 26.3% an Asian or Pacific Islander language and 11.6% Spanish, and Korean residents are 12.5% of the city. The caregiver list below is refreshed whenever a profile is completed.

Evaluating caregivers in Cypress
Replies to a Cypress post tend to fall into a few groups, and you vet each a little differently. CNAs and home health aides carry a CDPH certification number you can request. IHSS providers complete Live Scan and the county Public Authority's orientation as part of enrolling. Aides employed by a licensed Cypress home care agency have to appear on the state Home Care Aide Registry. Someone who cared for their own grandparents may hold no paperwork at all, and that can be fine for companionship and personal care if two references confirm it. Ask for those references in writing, call them, and have your parent meet the two strongest candidates in person before a paid trial shift. CaregiverConnect does not run background checks; with the caregiver's written permission you can order one yourself.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Have you worked with a client who attends an adult day health center, and how did you handle drop-off and pick-up days?
- Can you get Mom to the senior center on Grindlay Street in time for check-in at 10:30?
- Do you speak Korean, Spanish or another language my father uses at home?
- How would you keep the home health nurse informed about changes between visits?
- What would you do if Dad refused to shower two days in a row?
- Are you comfortable with a gait belt and transfers from bed to wheelchair?
- Would you consider enrolling as an IHSS provider if Mom qualifies for hours?

| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties combined) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Orange County | $18.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Cypress has no wage ordinance in UC Berkeley's inventory, so the legal minimum when your family is the employer is California's $16.90 an hour. Set that beside three other figures: $16.50, the May 2025 BLS median aide wage for the Los Angeles–Orange metro; $18.90, what Orange County pays IHSS providers; and $40, CareScout's 2025 statewide median for one agency hour. NOCE, which trains personal care aides in Cypress, quotes $17.00 to $21.00 as the Orange County average. Overtime for a personal attendant begins after nine hours in a day or 45 in a week. If your parent is on Medi-Cal, call Orange County SSA at (714) 825-3000 about IHSS; IHSS depends on a Medi-Cal eligibility determination, according to CDSS.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
