How to find an in-home caregiver in Anaheim
Most Anaheim families looking for help are not hiring for a parent who lives alone. Nearly three in ten Anaheim households (29.6%) include someone 65 or older, often a grandparent living with working adult children, and the need is daytime cover: meals, medication reminders, bathing, a walk, and someone to call the family if anything changes. Write the posting around that day. Name the hours, the tasks and the language your parent is most comfortable in; 59.8% of residents use a language besides English at home, mostly Spanish (40.8%), and one resident in four speaks English less than very well.
Caregivers who apply will usually live in Anaheim or the cities around it, such as Fullerton, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Orange. Caregiver profiles from nearby show above and fill in as more people sign up, and a posting reaches anyone whose travel radius includes your ZIP code. If you live in Anaheim Hills, mention parking and whether the caregiver will need to drive your parent, since that shapes who can take the job.

Evaluating caregivers in Anaheim
Start with what can be checked. Ask whether the caregiver has been an IHSS provider in Orange County, which involves state fingerprinting through the Public Authority in Santa Ana, or holds a CNA or home health aide certificate from CDPH. A Personal Care Aide certificate from NOCE's Anaheim campus shows completed coursework in personal care, body mechanics and infection control, though it is not a state license. Then do your own checks: an interview at home with your parent present, two references by phone, a background check the caregiver has agreed to in writing, and one paid trial day. No one at CaregiverConnect screens applicants; the Verified badge reflects only a reviewed upload.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Can you speak with my father in Spanish (or Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic) during personal care, not only small talk?
- What did the first days look like the last time you helped someone settle back home from Anaheim Regional Medical Center or another hospital?
- Will you drive my mother to the clinic and pharmacy, and is your car insured for that?
- How do you handle a parent who lives with us but does not want help from a stranger?
- Are you, or have you been, an IHSS provider in Orange County?
- Which weekday hours can you guarantee, and how much notice do you need for changes?
What in-home care costs in Anaheim: hourly rates and schedules
Build the schedule around the hours nobody in the family is home. In a household where adults leave for work, that is usually a weekday block that starts before the first person leaves; where relatives work shifts, it may be evenings or weekends instead. If your parent only needs help with bathing or meals, ask for short visits on set days. Plan for overnights during the first weeks after a hospital discharge, and say in the posting how long you expect each arrangement to last.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Orange County | $18.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
A household hiring a caregiver in Anaheim must pay at least the California minimum of $16.90; the city has no general minimum-wage ordinance of its own, and Measure L, the resort-area living wage, covers subsidized hospitality employers, not families. IHSS pays Orange County providers $18.90 from January 1, 2026, and the CareScout 2025 agency median for California is $40 an hour, so hiring directly can cost noticeably less than an agency. NOCE lists $17.00 to $21.00 an hour as the average Orange County wage range for personal care aides. Hours past nine in one day, or past 45 in a week, are paid at time and a half.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring safely in Anaheim
Put the arrangement in writing: tasks, hours, hourly rate, overtime, how you will pay and notice on both sides. Keep a simple timesheet, store cash and documents out of sight, and agree on who may enter the home. In a multigenerational household, tell everyone who the caregiver is and what they are responsible for. If you think your parent is being mistreated or neglected, report it to the county's Adult Protective Services hotline, (800) 451-5155. The hiring guide walks through screening and payroll.

Hiring a caregiver in Anaheim: frequently asked questions
How do I find a Spanish-speaking caregiver in Anaheim?
Say so in the posting title and description, and ask about it in the interview. Caregivers list their languages on their profiles, so you can check before you message anyone.
What does an in-home caregiver cost in Anaheim?
Hiring directly, at least the $16.90 state minimum; NOCE cites $17.00 to $21.00 as the Orange County personal care aide range, against a $40 CareScout agency median. You and the caregiver agree the rate.
Does Anaheim's living wage apply when I hire a caregiver?
No. Measure L covers subsidized hospitality businesses in the resort area. Families hiring at home follow the state minimum wage and the personal attendant overtime rules.
Can a relative earn IHSS pay for caring for a parent in Anaheim?
Yes, when the parent is eligible for Medi-Cal and Orange County approves IHSS hours. The application goes to the county Social Services Agency, (714) 825-3000; once approved, the relative enrolls as the provider.
Where can my parent go during the day for company?
The City of Anaheim serves a congregate lunch for adults 60 and older at the Brookhurst Community Center, and Alzheimer's Orange County runs adult day services for people with dementia.
Does CaregiverConnect check caregivers?
No. It does not run background checks or vet caregivers. You interview, call references and arrange any background check yourself.
