Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Anaheim

Anaheim runs from the neighborhoods west of the 5, through downtown and the resort district, east to Anaheim Hills along the 91, and care postings come from all of it. West and central Anaheim households are often multigenerational, with a parent who stays home while the rest of the family works; Anaheim Hills postings tend to come from older couples in single-family houses. Each posting above names the neighborhood city and distance, and the list updates as families publish.

The profile choices that matter most here are language and driving. 40.8% of Anaheim residents five and older speak Spanish at home, 12.8% an Asian or Pacific Islander language and 4.1% another Indo-European language; a quarter of residents (24.7%) speak English less than very well, so a family may be hiring precisely for the language. Say which languages you can use for personal care, not just conversation, and whether you have a car: many requests include rides to clinic visits or the pharmacy. The private jobs guide explains how to answer a posting.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Anaheim: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties)$16.50 median ($17.25 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 385,530 jobs; concentration 2.22× national
IHSS provider wage, Orange County$18.90CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Orange County projection: 53,070 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,870 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 106,340 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections (Anaheim–Santa Ana–Irvine Metropolitan Division)). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Anaheim gives its name to the BLS metro, but the $16.50 median covers Los Angeles County too; Orange County's own aide median, from EDD's projection file, is $17.11. On minimum wage, Anaheim is often misunderstood. Measure L, passed by city voters in 2018, set a living wage starting at $15 in 2019 and rising each year for hospitality businesses in the resort area that receive city subsidies; it does not apply to a family hiring a caregiver at home. Anaheim has no general citywide minimum wage (the UC Berkeley Labor Center's tracker of local wage laws does not list it), so private caregiving here starts from the state's $16.90, and IHSS pays $18.90.

How to enroll as a provider in Orange County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Orange County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Anaheim

For a private, non-medical job in an Anaheim home, no state license is needed; the family decides what to check, which may include CPR, references and a background check you arrange yourself. Agency jobs require Home Care Aide Registry enrollment through CDSS. If you care for a relative or client on Medi-Cal through IHSS, enrollment runs through the county's IHSS Public Authority office on W. Walnut Street in Santa Ana, a short drive down the 5, and includes orientation videos, two state forms, an in-person visit and fingerprinting. Caregivers are mandated reporters of elder abuse; Orange County APS takes reports at (800) 451-5155, day or night. See the California requirements guide.

Anaheim in numbers

With 340,433 people in the Department of Finance's January 1, 2026 estimate, Anaheim is the most populous city in Orange County. It is younger than the county as a whole: its median age is 36.2 and only 13.0% of residents have reached 65 (ACS 2020–2024). Yet 29.6% of households include someone 65 or older, and 34.6% of older residents report a disability, above the county's 29.2%, which points to older parents living inside larger family households and needing hands-on help. Median gross rent is $2,175 and the median home value $831,200, both below the county medians, and the average commute is 27.4 minutes.

AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center at 1111 W. La Palma Avenue runs an emergency department; if you have helped someone through the first days home from a hospital stay, say so on your profile.
