Finding caregiver jobs in San Clemente

"Caregiver jobs San Clemente" is a search families answer directly on this site: a household posts the days, hours and care needed, and it appears below with the distance from the city. San Clemente is the last Orange County city before the San Diego County line, which cuts both ways for a caregiver. Postings here draw applicants from Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and the Saddleback Valley to the north, and a San Clemente caregiver can equally take work in Oceanside and the rest of North County San Diego down I-5, where the platform already has more families and caregivers. The site's base is still San Diego County; a few caregivers have signed up from Lake Forest and Mission Viejo, and a profile with a San Clemente ZIP code (92672 or 92673) and a 25-mile radius covers both counties.

Two local facts shape the work. The city's hospital, Saddleback Memorial Medical Center – San Clemente at 654 Camino de Los Mares, closed on 31 May 2016 and the city has not found a replacement operator, so hospital discharges come home from MemorialCare Saddleback in Laguna Hills or Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, both a drive up the freeway, and families value a caregiver who can make that trip. And 21.4% of residents are 65 or older with a median age of 45.6, so the typical client is a retiree in a house on the hills above the pier rather than a multigenerational household. Say on your profile whether you drive, whether you can do early mornings, and whether you have brought someone home after surgery.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in San Clemente

San Clemente families mostly post daytime companionship and personal care for a parent living alone, recovery help after a discharge from Laguna Hills or Mission Viejo, dementia supervision, and respite for adult children who commute north. Overnight requests follow surgery or a fall; live-in postings are uncommon. Driving to appointments is written into most of them.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in San Clemente

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Orange County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Orange County)$16.50 median ($17.25 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 385,530 jobs; concentration 2.22× national
IHSS provider wage, Orange County$18.90CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Orange County projection: 53,070 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,870 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 106,340 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Nothing is published for San Clemente alone; the metro median is a Los Angeles-and-Orange figure and EDD's county file puts the Orange County aide median at $17.11. The city has no minimum-wage ordinance, so $16.90 is the floor. What moves a private rate here is the drive: a client with no hospital in town needs a caregiver who will take them to Laguna Hills or Mission Viejo, and families usually pay above the aide median with mileage agreed separately. The median home value is $1,398,400 and median rent $2,460, which is why most caregivers serving the city live elsewhere and commute in.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to San Clemente

San Clemente follows the county rules: no licence for non-medical care hired directly by a family, Home Care Aide registration mandatory only for agency aides and optional for independents, and IHSS enrolment through the Orange County Public Authority in Santa Ana, a long drive from here, although the first step is online and only the two-hour verification appointment and the Live Scan fingerprints need to be done in person. Phone the enrolment line on (714) 825-3195 before you go. CNA and home health aide certificates come from CDPH; Saddleback College in Mission Viejo runs both courses. The nearest emergency departments, and therefore the discharges that generate recovery work, are MemorialCare Saddleback (24451 Health Center Drive, Laguna Hills) and Providence Mission Hospital (27700 Medical Center Road, Mission Viejo). Mandated reporting applies to every caregiver; Adult Protective Services is (800) 451-5155. The requirements guide has the rest.

The area

San Clemente in numbers

The city had 62,636 residents on 1 January 2026 (Department of Finance). 21.4% are 65 or older (ACS 2020–2024), well above the 16.3% county share; 16.4% speak a non-English language at home, 9.9% Spanish, and only 5.0% speak English less than very well, so English-only caregivers are not at a disadvantage here as they would be in Santa Ana. Median household income is $140,062, 66.5% of homes are owner-occupied, and the mean commute is 28.6 minutes, mostly north on I-5.

For a caregiver the picture is a prosperous, older, English-speaking clientele, a long drive to any hospital, and a city that straddles two markets. The county-level figures, IHSS enrolment and training are on the Orange County page; the neighbouring cities with pages are Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in San Clemente: frequently asked questions

Is there enough work in San Clemente for a full week?

On its own, usually not yet; caregivers here combine San Clemente clients with Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and North County San Diego. Postings within 50 miles appear above, and alerts tell you when a new one lands in your radius.

Which hospital will I be driving to?

San Clemente has had none since Saddleback Memorial closed in May 2016. Discharges and appointments are at MemorialCare Saddleback in Laguna Hills or Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, both up I-5.

Can I take clients in Oceanside or Carlsbad too?

Yes. A 25-mile radius from 92672 reaches Oceanside and Carlsbad, where the platform has more families; postings there show on the North County San Diego page as well.

How do I enrol with IHSS from San Clemente?

Start online with the Orange County Public Authority (orientation videos, forms SOC 426 and SOC 846), then attend one in-person verification appointment in Santa Ana and get Live Scan fingerprints locally. Metrolink from Avenida Estacion reaches Santa Ana without driving.

What pay should I expect?

The reference points are the $16.50 metro median, EDD's $17.11 Orange County aide median and the $18.90 IHSS wage. Private clients who need driving usually pay above those, with mileage agreed separately; see the pay guide.

Where do San Clemente families post?
