Finding caregiver jobs in North County San Diego
North County is the part of the county where a caregiver's address matters most. The coast (Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar) has the oldest residents and the most expensive housing; the inland cities along State Route 78 (Vista, San Marcos, Escondido) and I-15 (Poway, Rancho Bernardo) are where most working caregivers can afford to live; the unincorporated edges (Fallbrook, Ramona, Rancho Santa Fe) need a car. Postings come from a 40-mile radius around the region's centre near San Marcos, and each card shows the city and distance.
The region matches the county's North Coastal and North Inland service regions, each with a county IHSS office: Oceanside, in the Ocean Ranch Boulevard building that also holds the North County Coastal career centre, and Escondido on West Mission Avenue. "Caregiver jobs North County San Diego" is a search people type, and most of what it returns is agency recruiting; the postings here are families hiring directly. If you live in Oceanside or Vista and can reach Carlsbad and Encinitas in 25 minutes, say so, because that is the commute coastal families hope to find.

Types of caregiver jobs in North County San Diego
Postings from the coastal cities, where the 65-plus shares are the highest in the county, more often involve an older parent living alone and driving to Scripps Encinitas, Sharp Tri-City or a Palomar outpatient centre; inland postings more often fit around a working household's hours. Spanish is spoken at home by more than a third of residents in Escondido, Vista and Fallbrook, so a bilingual profile helps there. Companionship and errands are the usual start without a certificate.
- Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
- Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
- Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
- Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
- Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
- Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
- Overnight: supervision through the night.
- Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Caregiver pay in North County San Diego
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County) | $16.97 median ($17.71 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national |
| IHSS provider wage, San Diego County | $20.40 | CDSS; effective March 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County) | $23.11 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.
The BLS and IHSS figures are county-wide, and no North County city has its own minimum-wage ordinance, so $16.90 applies throughout; the City of San Diego's $17.75 covers Rancho Bernardo and stops at the city line. What differs is the client base and the drive. Median home values run from $714,500 in Escondido and $762,400 in Vista to $1,257,000 in Carlsbad, $1,646,800 in Encinitas and $2 million or more in Solana Beach, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe, and coastal families are used to agency rates around the $40 statewide median from the 69 licensed agencies based in the region. A private rate between the $20.40 IHSS wage and that figure, plus mileage, is normal; inland caregivers should price in 20 to 30 minutes each way to a coastal client.
IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to North County San Diego
Nothing extra is required to work in North County, but the offices are local. IHSS providers enrol through the Public Authority, (866) 351-7722 (SOC 426 packet, a $47 Live Scan appointment, an online video session, SOC 846), and can use the county IHSS offices at 3708 Ocean Ranch Boulevard, Suite 320, Oceanside or 649 West Mission Avenue, Suite 5, Escondido for forms. A caregiver hired directly for non-medical care needs no licence; the Home Care Aide Registry is voluntary for independents ($35) and mandatory for aides of licensed agencies, of which the region has 69 on the May 2025 CDSS file, 16 in Escondido and 11 in Oceanside. CNAs, certified by CDPH, staff the 274 licensed residential care facilities here, from six-bed homes (186 of them) to La Costa Glen in Carlsbad with 1,233 places. Mandated reporting applies to everyone; the county line is (800) 339-4661. See the requirements guide.

North County in numbers
The nine incorporated cities had about 770,000 residents on 1 January 2026, led by Oceanside (174,027), Escondido (152,196), Carlsbad (115,867), Vista (101,365) and San Marcos (97,554); Fallbrook (32,112), Ramona (22,634) and Rancho Santa Fe (2,260) are unincorporated. The age gap between coast and inland is wide: 65-plus shares are 31.8% in Del Mar, 26.7% in Solana Beach, 19.9% in Encinitas and 18.8% in Carlsbad against 13.0% in Vista, 13.2% in San Marcos and 14.4% in Escondido (ACS 2020–2024). Spanish is spoken at home by 37.7% in Escondido, 40.0% in Fallbrook and 34.1% in Vista but by under 11% in Encinitas, Carlsbad and Poway. Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps base north of Oceanside, holds about 25,000 residents in its two census-designated places, almost none over 65, and 8.8% of Oceanside's civilian adults are veterans.
The practical reading: the clients are on the coast and in Poway and Rancho Bernardo, the affordable housing and most colleagues are in Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido, and the SPRINTER and SR-78 join the two. From Escondido it is 19 road miles to Oceanside, 24 to Fallbrook, 19 to Ramona and 28 to Temecula, so an Escondido-based caregiver can serve the whole inland band. Temecula and Murrieta are a separate Riverside County market with the lower $19.90 IHSS wage.
