Finding caregiver jobs in Solana Beach

Solana Beach is a city of a few square miles on the coast between Cardiff and Del Mar, with one ZIP code, 92075, a COASTER station at 105 North Cedros Avenue and a city hall on Highway 101. Nobody searches for "caregiver jobs Solana Beach"; families here look for "home care Solana Beach" and the postings they create are found through the live list below and through alerts, not through a job-board search. The list reaches 50 miles, so it includes Encinitas, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carlsbad and the northern City of San Diego, with each card showing the distance from Solana Beach.

A number of caregivers on the platform are based within a short drive, mostly in the larger towns inland and to the north, since the median home here is valued above $2 million and median rent is $3,212. Mention the COASTER if you use it: the station is in the middle of town and the city's residential streets are close to it. Solana Beach families are often retirees hiring for a spouse or an adult child hiring from a distance, so a profile that explains how you keep a family informed will do better than one that lists tasks. The profile guide shows how.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Solana Beach

Requests from Solana Beach are typically companionship and personal care for an older resident who still lives independently, driving to appointments in Encinitas or La Jolla, dementia supervision, and respite for a spouse who is the main caregiver. Hours are often part-time and regular rather than full days. If you are new to the work, companionship and driving are where to begin.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Solana Beach

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$16.97 median ($17.71 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national
IHSS provider wage, San Diego County$20.40CDSS; effective March 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$23.11 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

These are metro and county figures; a city of 13,000 has none of its own. Solana Beach has no wage ordinance of its own; the state's $16.90 is the floor. Only two licensed home-care agencies and two licensed residential care facilities are based in the city (CDSS, May 2025), so most care here is arranged privately or through agencies in Encinitas and San Diego, and private rates agreed with Solana Beach families are normally above the $20.40 IHSS wage for experienced caregivers, with mileage for the drive to appointments agreed separately. The county's 31.7% projected growth to 2033 includes replacement openings.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Solana Beach

State rules apply in Solana Beach with no local layer. When a family hires you directly for non-medical care no licence is involved; Home Care Aide registration ($35, Live Scan) is your choice, while the two licensed agencies in the city have no choice about registering theirs. The county Public Authority, (866) 351-7722, enrols IHSS providers after fingerprints and orientation, although household incomes here mean few residents are Medi-Cal eligible. For a CNA or HHA certificate you complete an approved course and apply to CDPH; MiraCosta College runs the nearest. The city's two licensed residential care facilities, one of them with more than 50 beds, employ under Community Care Licensing rules. Paid caregivers of older adults count as mandated reporters under WIC 15630; reports go to Aging & Independence Services, (800) 339-4661. The requirements guide covers all three systems.

Solana Beach in numbers

Solana Beach had 12,941 residents on 1 January 2026 (DOF E-1). ACS 2020–2024 puts 26.7% at 65 or over, about 3,400 people, more than any North County coastal city except Del Mar; 14.0% are Hispanic or Latino, 11.4% speak Spanish at home and median household income is $152,167. The median owner-occupied home is valued at $2 million or more and median gross rent is $3,212, so the caregivers who work here live elsewhere.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Solana Beach: frequently asked questions

Is there enough work in Solana Beach to bother with?

Not from the city alone, but the age profile is the second oldest on this coast and the postings above cover 50 miles. Treat Solana Beach as one stop on a route that includes Encinitas, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe.

Can I reach clients here without a car?

Better than in most towns: the COASTER station on Cedros Avenue is in the centre and BREEZE 101 runs along the coast. Driving a client to appointments is a different matter and is usually part of the job, so say whether you can.

What should I charge in Solana Beach?

The references are the $16.97 metro median for employed aides, $20.40 for IHSS and $23.11 for CNAs; experienced private caregivers here normally agree a rate above the IHSS figure plus mileage. The pay guide explains how to set one.

Do families here use IHSS?

Rarely, given local incomes. Most Solana Beach arrangements are private or through an agency, which is why a clear profile and references matter more than a Public Authority enrolment.

Where do Solana Beach families post?

The Solana Beach families page, where anonymised caregiver cards for the coast are shown too.
