Finding caregiver jobs in Poway

Poway's age profile is the point: 19.0% of residents are 65 or older (ACS 2020–2024), against 15.4% for San Diego County, and most of them own single-family homes they intend to stay in. That produces the kind of posting a caregiver wants: long-running weekday help for a parent at home, often with driving to Palomar Medical Center Poway on Pomerado Road or to the outpatient centres beside it. Families in Poway have already posted on this site, and the caregivers nearest them are a mix of Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Sabre Springs and Santee addresses, which is one of the deeper local pools in North County.

Poway is a city in its own right, not a San Diego neighbourhood, and its families tend to say so; a profile that names Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Sabre Springs as home territory reads better here than a county-wide radius. Postings within 50 miles appear above, newest first, with the distance from the centre of Poway. Turn on alerts: Poway requests often start the week a parent comes home from a hospital stay.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Poway

Postings from Poway lean toward personal care for a parent in their own home, dementia supervision, post-surgical recovery after a stay at Palomar Medical Center Poway, and companionship with driving, since the city's bus routes run only along Poway Road and Midland Road. Overnight and weekend respite requests come up from adult children who live with a parent. Companionship, cooking and transport are open to applicants without formal training; the rest goes to people who can describe real experience.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Poway

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$16.97 median ($17.71 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national
IHSS provider wage, San Diego County$20.40CDSS; effective March 1, 2026

Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$23.11 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Poway is outside the City of San Diego, so its minimum wage is the state's $16.90, not the city's $17.75; in practice that floor is irrelevant, because the county IHSS wage is $20.40 and Poway households, with a median income of $148,359 and a median home value of $1,034,800 (ACS 2020–2024), are mostly paying privately at rates above it. The $16.97 median and $17.71 mean describe employed aides across the metro, many of them at agencies; The Villas at Poway, Palomar's skilled nursing facility, employs CNAs at facility rates (median $23.11 in the metro). Expect private rates to rise for dementia care, nights and driving.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Poway

Poway follows the California framework, and which part applies depends on who employs you. Hired directly by a Poway family for non-medical care, you need no licence; you may register on the state Home Care Aide Registry voluntarily for $35. Working for a licensed agency, registration with a CDSS background clearance is mandatory. As an IHSS provider you enrol with the county Public Authority, roughly 28 road miles away in National City ((866) 351-7722), and complete the fingerprint check and orientation; the recipient's assessment comes through Aging & Independence Services at (800) 339-4661. CNAs working at The Villas at Poway or the hospital hold CDPH certification. Reporting suspected elder abuse is a legal duty (WIC §15630) for every caregiver. The requirements guide covers the detail.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Poway: frequently asked questions

Have real Poway families posted here?

Yes. Poway is one of the cities from which families have published care needs on CaregiverConnect, and new postings within 50 miles appear above as they are made.

Do I need a car for Poway work?

Almost always. MTS 944 and 945 cover Poway Road and Midland Road only; clients in the hills north and east of town are unreachable by bus, and most postings include driving to Pomerado Road appointments.

What do Poway caregivers get paid?

Private rates are negotiated with each family. The published anchors are the $20.40 county IHSS wage, the $16.97 employed median and the $23.11 CNA median; given Poway incomes, private offers usually exceed the IHSS wage, with more for dementia care and nights.

Can I start without experience?

Companionship, meals, errands and driving are realistic first postings. Personal care and dementia supervision in Poway go to applicants who can show experience or a certificate; the profile guide explains how to present what you have.

Does The Villas at Poway recruit through CaregiverConnect?

No; it is a skilled nursing facility that employs its own staff. This site is for families hiring in private homes, including Poway families whose parent has just left the Villas or the hospital.

Where do Poway families post?

On the Poway families page, which also shows caregiver cards nearest the city.
