Finding caregiver jobs in Rancho Santa Fe

Rancho Santa Fe is unincorporated, a census-designated place in San Diego County with only 2,260 residents (ACS 2020–2024), but 29.1% of them are 65 or over and 5.5% are 85 or over, both roughly double the county's shares, and the median household income is $175,792. Large estates, long driveways and a spouse or adult child managing care from a distance produce the postings a professional caregiver looks for: full days, long engagements, often live-in or overnight, almost always with driving. Several caregivers on this site already give Rancho Santa Fe as their home address, and the pool within 15 miles, drawing on Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Escondido, is one of the deeper ones in North County.

Postings within 50 miles appear above with distance from the village centre; the ZIP codes are 92067 and 92091, the latter shared with the neighbouring Fairbanks Ranch community. A profile that spells out live-in availability, dementia experience, a clean driving record and discretion about a household's privacy reads well here. If you search for this work, ignore the agency names that autocomplete attaches to the town; the families who post on CaregiverConnect are hiring you, not an agency.

Types of caregiver jobs in Rancho Santa Fe

Rancho Santa Fe families post live-in and overnight care for a parent in a large house, daytime personal care with driving to Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas or specialists in La Jolla, dementia care that fits around a spouse's routine, and companionship that includes meals, errands and managing other household staff. Beginners are rarely hired here; experience, references and a car are the norm, and households with an English-only routine (85.7% of residents) usually say so.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Rancho Santa Fe

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage

Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$23.11 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

The county figures understate what Rancho Santa Fe families pay. IHSS is rarely relevant in a community where the median home value exceeds the $2,000,000 top of the Census scale and whose median rent is $3,501; the $20.40 IHSS wage and the $16.97 employed median are floors here, not expectations, and the $40 California agency median is the number a family compares your rate with when deciding to hire directly. The state minimum of $16.90 applies, since the community is unincorporated. Live-in work is covered by California's personal-attendant overtime rule beyond nine hours in a day or 45 in a week, which should be written into any agreement.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Rancho Santa Fe

Nothing in Rancho Santa Fe exempts a household from California's rules, and because so much care here is private and live-in the rules matter more, not less. A caregiver hired directly for non-medical care needs no licence; the Home Care Aide Registry is voluntary for independents ($35) and families here often ask whether you are on it. Agency aides must be registered with a CDSS background clearance. The handful of IHSS cases in the community enrol providers through the county Public Authority ((866) 351-7722), whose office is about 32 road miles away in National City. CNAs are certified by CDPH. Mandated reporting under WIC §15630 covers financial abuse as well as neglect, a live issue in affluent households. The requirements guide sets out the three tracks; the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights overtime rule is in the pay section above.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Rancho Santa Fe: frequently asked questions

Are there really caregiver jobs in a community of 2,260 people?

Fewer postings than Escondido, but each one tends to be larger: full days, live-in or long engagements. Nearly three in ten residents are over 65, and families here hire privately rather than through IHSS.

What rate should I ask for in Rancho Santa Fe?

Set it with the $40 California agency median in view rather than the $20.40 IHSS wage; families here are comparing you with an agency, and dementia experience, live-in availability and references justify the upper part of the range. See the pay guide.

How does overtime work for live-in care?

Under the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights a personal attendant earns time and a half after nine hours in a day or 45 in a week. Put the daily hours, sleep time and rate in writing before moving in.

Is there public transport?

Not usefully. NCTD does not list the community as served, and the nearest routes pass along Del Dios Highway and Rancho Santa Fe Road. Families expect you to drive.

Which hospital will I be driving to?

Most often Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas on Santa Fe Drive, about seven miles; Palomar Medical Center Escondido is about twelve miles the other way.

Where do Rancho Santa Fe families post?

On the Rancho Santa Fe families page, which also shows caregiver cards nearest the village.
