IHSS pays $20.40 and the Public Authority runs a registry
In-Home Supportive Services providers in San Diego County earn $20.40 an hour under the county rate effective 1 March 2026, the highest IHSS wage of the counties on this site. The San Diego County IHSS Public Authority, 401 Mile of Cars Way, Suite 200, National City, (866) 351-7722, runs the provider registry and enrolment for more than 44,000 caregivers and 48,000 recipients; new providers attend the state-mandated orientation at the Public Authority Training Center, 5473 Kearny Villa Road, Suite 120, which trains over 600 providers a month. Private work found on CaregiverConnect sits alongside IHSS for many caregivers.
Free training and job help in the city
San Diego College of Continuing Education offers a free 230-hour Personal Care Assistant/Caregiver certificate (10 weeks, about 23 hours a week) at its Harbor View campus, combining HLTH 609 Healthcare Careers and HLTH 610 Personal and Home Care Aide. CDSS's May 2025 licensing file lists 230 licensed Home Care Organizations in the county (104 in the city) and 581 residential care facilities for the elderly, so agency and facility work are also available here, unlike in the Imperial Valley.
