Finding caregiver jobs in Spring Valley

Spring Valley is a census-designated place in unincorporated San Diego County, governed by the county rather than a city council, and the name on a posting can mean several different neighbourhoods. The CDP itself had about 32,000 residents in the ACS 2020–2024 estimates, but the 91977 ZIP code alone covers about 61,000 people and 91978 another 10,000, because the postal area takes in La Presa (a separate CDP of about 35,000) and parts of the Casa de Oro–Mount Helix area to the north, where 21.4% of residents are 65 or over. Read the ZIP code and the distance on each posting rather than the place name, and set a radius that includes Lemon Grove, La Mesa and the eastern edge of San Diego, which are all a few minutes away. Caregivers on the platform who list La Mesa or El Cajon as home already take Spring Valley clients.

Bilingual caregivers do well here. 39.9% of residents speak a language other than English at home and 30.0% speak Spanish, the highest Spanish share of the East County places on this site; Tagalog and Arabic are each spoken by a few hundred households. Put your languages at the top of the profile. The searches that reach this page are "caregiver jobs Spring Valley" and "caregiver Spring Valley", so families here type the place name and expect a local; mention which side of the community you can reach and whether you drive, since the hills off Jamacha Boulevard and Sweetwater Road are not well served by transit.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Spring Valley

Spring Valley postings centre on companionship and household help for a parent in a family-owned home (64.3% of households own), personal care and dementia support, respite for working adult children, and occasional companionship visits for a relative at Covenant Living at Mount Miguel, the 435-bed continuing-care community that dominates local facility capacity. Household help and errands are open to new caregivers; dementia and personal care expect experience.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Spring Valley

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$16.97 median ($17.71 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national
IHSS provider wage, San Diego County$20.40CDSS; effective March 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$23.11 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

The table is county data. Because Spring Valley is unincorporated, no city minimum-wage ordinance can apply; the state's $16.90 is the floor and the $20.40 IHSS wage is the practical reference. Only one licensed home-care agency gives a Spring Valley address on the May 2025 CDSS file and there are six residential care facilities, so most paid care here is either IHSS or a private arrangement, and private rates are usually agreed above the $16.97 employed median with a premium for Spanish, driving and overnights. Median household income in the CDP is $109,110, which supports private hiring in the owner-occupied streets, while IHSS carries much of the care in the rental areas.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Spring Valley

Being unincorporated changes nothing about the state rules, but it does change who to call: there is no city hall, so county offices handle everything. Direct hire by a family for non-medical care needs no licence; Home Care Aide Registry listing is voluntary ($35, Live Scan). Agency aides must be on the registry with a CDSS background check, TB clearance and training. IHSS providers enrol with the San Diego County IHSS Public Authority in National City ((866) 351-7722), including Department of Justice fingerprints and the provider orientation, after the recipient has been assessed by Aging & Independence Services ((800) 339-4661). CNA and HHA certificates come from the California Department of Public Health; the nearest approved courses are at the Health Occupations Center in Santee. Paid caregivers of older adults are mandated reporters under Welfare and Institutions Code section 15630. The requirements guide has the detail.

Spring Valley CDP had 31,969 residents in the ACS 2020–2024 estimates, 13.6% of them 65 or older and about 540 aged 85 or over; 31.6% of households include someone 65 or older. The surrounding postal area is older and larger: La Presa CDP (34,962 people, 15.1% aged 65 or over) and Casa de Oro–Mount Helix CDP (19,765, 21.4%) share the Spring Valley name on mail and on many postings, and Rancho San Diego to the east is 22.6% over 65. There is no hospital in Spring Valley; Sharp Grossmont in La Mesa (562 beds) is the nearest large one. The CDSS May 2025 file shows six licensed residential care facilities with a Spring Valley address, five of them six-bed homes and one, Covenant Living at Mount Miguel, a 435-bed continuing-care retirement community. For a caregiver that means an older, home-owning population with little local provider capacity, which is the profile that generates private postings.
