Finding caregiver jobs in Coronado
Coronado is a different market from the rest of the South Bay. More than one in five residents is 65 or older, 39.4% of households include someone 65 or over, the ACS median home value is at the top-coded $2 million or more and the median gross rent is $3,257, so almost nobody who does care work lives on the island; caregivers come across the San Diego–Coronado Bridge (toll-free since 2002) from the City of San Diego, or up the Silver Strand on State Route 75 from Imperial Beach and Chula Vista. Families here know that and expect to pay for the commute. Postings below show their distance from the centre of town; the ones in the 92118 ZIP code are the island jobs, and the rest are from across the bay. Several caregivers on CaregiverConnect list Coronado within their radius, though few live there.
Two things distinguish a strong Coronado profile. First, say how you will get there: by car over the bridge, on MTS route 901 along the Strand, or on the ferry from downtown ($9 one way, 15 minutes) and route 904 from the Ferry Landing. Second, name any experience with military families or veterans; 14.5% of Coronado adults are veterans and Naval Air Station North Island is at the north end of the island, so many older residents have Navy backgrounds.

Caregiver pay in Coronado
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County) | $16.97 median ($17.71 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national |
| IHSS provider wage, San Diego County | $20.40 | CDSS; effective March 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County) | $23.11 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.
The table is county-wide. Coronado's median household income of $134,534 is the highest of the South Bay cities on this site, and four licensed home-care agencies are based in a town of 24,000 (May 2025 CDSS file), which tells you private pay dominates and the $40 agency median is the number families compare you against. Quote above the $20.40 IHSS wage and add for the bridge commute, overnights and dementia care. Coronado has no minimum-wage ordinance; the state's $16.90 applies, and the City of San Diego's $17.75 ends at the bridge.
IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Coronado
California's three caregiver systems all operate in Coronado. A family hiring directly for non-medical help needs nobody licensed; the state Home Care Aide Registry is mandatory for the staff of the four licensed agencies in town and optional ($35, Live Scan) for independents. IHSS providers enrol with the county Public Authority (National City, (866) 351-7722) after a Department of Justice fingerprint check; IHSS work is less common here because eligibility depends on Medi-Cal. CNAs are certified by CDPH and staff Villa Coronado, Sharp Coronado's skilled nursing facility (the hospital's 188 licensed beds include 122 for long-term care), a different employer and regime from private in-home care. Mandated-reporter duties under WIC §15630 apply to every paid caregiver; the county's reporting line is (800) 339-4661. The requirements guide has the detail.

Coronado in numbers
Coronado had 23,796 residents on 1 January 2026 by the Department of Finance count and incorporated in 1890. The town is less Spanish-speaking than its neighbours: 82.7% speak only English at home and 12.8% speak Spanish. Residents' mean commute is 18.1 minutes, but a caregiver's commute starts on the mainland.

Caregiver jobs in Coronado: frequently asked questions
Do Coronado families pay more?
Often, yes. Incomes are the highest in the South Bay, agencies charge around the $40 state median, and families expect to cover the bridge commute. Quote your real rate on your profile; the cards families see include it.
How do I get to Coronado without a car?
Route 901 from downtown or Iris, the ferry from Broadway Pier or the Convention Center ($9, 15 minutes) then route 904, or the 904 from the Ferry Landing. Fixed schedules work; short-notice calls are harder.
Is military or veteran experience useful here?
Yes. 14.5% of adults are veterans and Naval Air Station North Island is on the island, so many clients are retired Navy families. Mention any relevant experience in your profile.
Is there IHSS work in Coronado?
Less than elsewhere; IHSS depends on Medi-Cal eligibility and most care here is private pay. Enrolment, if you want it, is at the Public Authority in National City. See the pay guide.
Does Sharp Coronado or Villa Coronado hire through this site?
No; facilities employ staff directly. This marketplace is for families hiring at home, including families whose relative is being discharged from Sharp Coronado or Villa Coronado.
Where do Coronado families post?
On the Coronado families page.
