Finding caregiver jobs in Alpine

Alpine is a census-designated place, unincorporated and administered by San Diego County, with about 15,000 people strung along Alpine Boulevard and the hills either side of Interstate 8, with the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians' reservation and casino at the eastern end. It has the highest median age of the East County communities on this site (42.4), 19.5% of residents are 65 or over and a resident aged 65 or over is found in 34.6% of households (ACS 2020–2024). The marketplace is thin here and this page says so: only a handful of caregivers on CaregiverConnect are based within 15 miles of Alpine, and most postings that appear below will be from El Cajon, Lakeside and Santee, which are 15 to 25 minutes west on the freeway. A caregiver who actually lives in Alpine or Harbison Canyon should say so in the first line of the profile, because that alone sets them apart.

No search phrases for caregiver work name Alpine; families here search for "alpine caregivers" and "senior care Alpine" from the hiring side instead. So the practical strategy is to base yourself in Alpine, set a 20- to 25-mile radius to pick up El Cajon and Santee postings, and keep alerts on so that the occasional Alpine posting reaches you first. Alpine has the longest mean commute of the six East County places (30.2 minutes) and no trolley, so a car is not optional.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Alpine

Alpine families ask for companionship and help around the house for a parent on a large lot, help with driving to appointments in El Cajon and La Mesa, respite for a spouse, and dementia care; the two licensed residential care homes in the community hold 50 beds between them, so most care happens at home. Live-in requests are more plausible here than in the cities because many properties have a separate room or unit. Household help is the usual entry point for a newer caregiver.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Alpine

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$16.97 median ($17.71 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 57,080 jobs; concentration 1.34× national
IHSS provider wage, San Diego County$20.40CDSS; effective March 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, San Diego–Chula Vista–Carlsbad, CA metro (San Diego County)$23.11 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

San Diego County projection: 52,820 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,580 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 105,890 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

County figures throughout; Alpine is far too small for its own. Unincorporated areas have no local minimum wage, so the state's $16.90 applies and the $20.40 IHSS wage is the usual benchmark. No licensed home-care agency gives an Alpine address on the May 2025 CDSS file, and private families here, with a median household income of $108,660 and the highest median home value in East County ($864,000), generally pay above the $16.97 employed median and add mileage, because every client visit involves driving. The Viejas Casino & Resort is the large local employer and competes for the same workers, which also supports rates.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Alpine

Alpine follows the state rules with the county as the only local authority. If an Alpine family hires you directly for non-medical care, no licence exists to obtain; the Home Care Aide Registry ($35, Live Scan) is there if you want it. Agency employment would require the registry listing with its CDSS background check, TB clearance and training, but no agency is based in Alpine. IHSS pay runs through the county: the recipient is assessed by Aging & Independence Services ((800) 339-4661), then the provider enrols at the Public Authority in National City ((866) 351-7722), an hour's drive, for fingerprints and orientation. The nearest Department of Public Health-approved CNA and HHA courses are at the Health Occupations Center in Santee. Welfare and Institutions Code section 15630 makes every paid caregiver of an older adult a mandated reporter. The requirements guide explains the three routes.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Alpine: frequently asked questions

Are there really caregiver jobs in Alpine?

Occasionally, and they are hard for families to fill, but most of what appears above is from El Cajon, Lakeside and Santee. A caregiver living in Alpine who also covers those towns has the best of both.

Can I do this without a car?

Not in Alpine. There is no trolley, the mean commute is the longest in East County and clients are spread along the foothills. Mileage should be part of your rate.

What are the pay reference points?

Employed aides in the county: $16.97 median. IHSS: $20.40 since March 2026. State minimum: $16.90, with no city ordinance possible in an unincorporated area. Alpine households have the means to pay above the median for driving and reliability. See the pay guide.

Where would I train?

The Health Occupations Center in Santee for CNA and HHA; it requires a medical orientation before registration.

Does the Viejas casino count as caregiver experience?

No, but hospitality work there is common on local résumés and families value reliability and customer-service experience; describe it honestly alongside any care you have given to a relative.

Where do Alpine families post?

On the Alpine families page, which shows anonymised cards of the caregivers nearest to Alpine.
