Day-to-day support for older adults who want to stay in their own home: companionship, meals, reminders and help getting around safely.

In-home care

Families on CaregiverConnect post the help they need at home, from a few hours a week to daily visits. Most postings are non-medical.

Personal care

Hands-on help with bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility. Families list exactly which tasks they need so you can decide what fits.

Dementia & Alzheimer's care

Routine-based support for people living with memory loss. Families often ask for experience; share yours in your profile.

Respite care

Short-term cover so a family caregiver can rest, travel or work. Often a few shifts a week or occasional weekends.

Live-in caregiving

Caregivers who list "live-in" availability are matched to families offering room and board as part of the arrangement.

Part-time & overnight

Set your availability by day and time block (mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnight) and families filter by it.

  3. Create your account

  4. Browse, apply or respond

See open postings and a matched list ranked by how well your profile fits what each family asked for. Apply to a posting, or respond when a family sends you a direct job request; the family reviews applicants and chooses who to hire. 5. Agree on the details

Use messaging to discuss schedule, duties and pay. You and the family agree on the rate and how you are paid; CaregiverConnect does not take a cut of your earnings.

The Imperial Valley care market, in numbers

Imperial County is small, rural, overwhelmingly Spanish-speaking and has one of the highest concentrations of home-care work in the United States. These are the public figures behind that, with sources below.

Home care is a pillar of the county economy

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 8,020 home health and personal care aide jobs in the El Centro metro area, which is the whole county, in May 2025: about 123 of every 1,000 jobs, a concentration 4.4 times the national average and the highest of any metro we track. The median wage was $16.50 an hour. California's EDD projects those jobs to grow from 7,160 in 2023 to 8,890 in 2033, with roughly 13,420 openings over the decade.

Most of that work runs through In-Home Supportive Services. In August 2026 the county had 10,350 authorised IHSS recipients served by about 9,300 active individual providers, with recipients authorised an average of about 109 hours of care a month. 72% of recipients and 61% of providers speak Spanish. The 2026 provider wage is $18.83 an hour; enrolment runs through the IHSS Public Authority at 2999 S. 4th Street, El Centro, (760) 337-7722.

Who lives here and who needs care

The county had 185,961 residents on 1 January 2026 (Department of Finance). 86% are Hispanic or Latino and 74% of people aged five and over speak Spanish at home, so a bilingual caregiver is usually the first thing a family asks for. 13.7% of residents are 65 or older today; the state projects the 65-plus population to grow from about 24,200 in 2020 to about 41,100 in 2040, from 13.4% to 20.9% of the county.

The towns differ more than outsiders expect. Holtville and Calexico have the oldest age profiles (17.6% and 16.5% aged 65+; over 40% of households include someone 65 or older), Imperial the youngest (9.5%) and the highest household income, Calexico is 92% Spanish-speaking at home, and Westmorland has the lowest household income in the county. Each town page below carries its own figures and resources.

Private caregiving alongside IHSS

Because IHSS hours are capped by each recipient's assessment, many Imperial Valley caregivers combine a county case with private clients. Private arrangements, which is what families post on CaregiverConnect, are not required to go through the state Home Care Aide Registry (that applies to agency aides), though independent caregivers may register for $35 as a way to be verifiable. Only two Home Care Organizations were licensed in the county on the May 2025 CDSS file (Heart & Hand in El Centro and Hearts of Gold in Brawley), so most families here hire directly or through IHSS rather than through an agency.

Getting around the valley

Distances are short: Imperial is about 5 miles from El Centro, Holtville and Calexico 11, Brawley 14, Westmorland about 21 and Calipatria about 24 by road. A travel radius of 20 miles on your profile covers nearly every family in the county. For clients without a car, IVT RIDE Now offers $1 curb-to-curb rides for people 55 and over in the Brawley, Calexico and El Centro–Heber–Imperial zones (weekdays 6 am to 6 pm), IVT ACCESS runs ADA paratransit, and IVT MedTrans takes patients to San Diego four days a week.

Training and job-search help

Three America's Job Center of California offices serve the county: El Centro (2799 S. 4th Street, (442) 265-4950), Brawley (860 Main Street, (442) 265-5376) and Calexico (301 Heber Avenue, (442) 265-6192). Imperial Valley College in Imperial runs the CNA (AHP 060) and Home Health Aide (AHP 062) courses, though its page says neither is offered in Fall 2026. The Area Agency on Aging (778 W. State Street, El Centro, (442) 265-7000) runs meals, transport, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and in-home respite through AlzCare ((760) 344-4654). Our Imperial County resource directory lists every address and phone number.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Imperial County: frequently asked questions

Which Imperial County towns have caregiver job pages?

El Centro, Imperial, Calexico, Brawley and Holtville each have their own page with live postings, local figures and resources. Westmorland and Calipatria have shorter pages because the towns are small; they are listed above and link to this county page for the shared resources.

Can I work for IHSS and take private clients at the same time?

Yes. IHSS pays for the hours a county assessment authorises for a specific recipient; a private client is a separate arrangement between you and that family. Many Imperial Valley caregivers hold both. Keep the schedules and the paperwork separate.

How far do families expect a caregiver to travel?

Within the valley, 10 to 20 miles. Families post with a ZIP code and caregivers set a travel radius; a 20-mile radius from El Centro reaches every town on this page except Calipatria.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Not to join, but it decides who contacts you. Three in four county residents speak Spanish at home and in Calexico it is nine in ten. List every language on your profile.

Is there a licence for private caregivers in California?

No licence is required to be hired directly by a family for non-medical care. Agency aides must be on the state Home Care Aide Registry; independent caregivers may register voluntarily. See the California requirements guide.

How do I post a job as a family in Imperial County?

Create a free family account, describe the care, schedule and pay, and the posting goes live to caregivers in your radius immediately. The Imperial County families page shows who is available now.
