What you can post

Types of in-home care families in Imperial County arrange

All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.

Senior care at home

Help with the day: meals, reminders, light housekeeping, errands and company, so a parent can stay in their own home.

Personal care

Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and safe transfers. You list the tasks; caregivers who offer them apply.

Companion care

Conversation, walks, appointments and errands for someone who mostly needs company and a watchful eye.

Dementia & Alzheimer's care

Routine-based, patient support. Ask for experience with memory loss in your posting; caregivers list it on their profile.

Respite care

A few shifts a week or an occasional weekend so a family caregiver can rest, work or travel.

Overnight & live-in

Overnight supervision or a live-in arrangement with room and board. Caregivers mark these availabilities on their profile.

Post-surgery & recovery

Non-medical help after a hospital stay: mobility, meals, medication reminders and getting to follow-up appointments.

Part-time & flexible

Most families start with a few hours on set days. Post the days and time blocks you need and filter caregivers by availability.

How it works

How to find and hire a caregiver in Imperial County

CaregiverConnect is a marketplace, not an agency: you hire the caregiver directly, which is why there is no agency mark-up on their hourly rate. That also means screening is your responsibility, and we tell you how.

Arranging care in the Imperial Valley: what families should know

Public programmes, costs and safety nets for Imperial County families, with sources listed below.

Your options, side by side

IHSS: if your relative is on Medi-Cal and needs help to stay at home, In-Home Supportive Services can pay a caregiver you choose, often a family member, for the hours the county authorises (average about 109 hours a month in Imperial County in August 2026). Apply through the county Department of Social Services, (760) 337-6800; the Public Authority registry ((760) 337-7722) can suggest screened providers.

Private caregiver: you hire the person directly, agree the rate and schedule, and handle payroll as a household employer. This is what CaregiverConnect is for. Agency: only two Home Care Organizations were licensed in the county on the May 2025 CDSS file, so agency capacity is limited here; agency aides must be on the state Home Care Aide Registry. Facility: six licensed residential care facilities for the elderly, including Sonrisa Villa in Holtville (175 beds).

What care costs here

No agency tracks private rates, so use the public reference points: employed aides in the county earned a median $16.50 an hour in May 2025 (BLS), IHSS providers are paid $18.83 an hour in 2026, and the California minimum wage is $16.90. CareScout's 2025 survey puts the statewide median for non-medical in-home care at $40 an hour through agencies. A caregiver you hire directly will reasonably expect more than the aide median and less than the agency rate; each caregiver on this site publishes an hourly rate on their profile. Overnights, weekends, dementia care and personal care usually cost more than companionship.

Respite, transport and support

The Imperial County Area Agency on Aging (778 W. State Street, El Centro, (442) 265-7000) provides in-home respite through AlzCare ((760) 344-4654), home-delivered and congregate meals, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman ((442) 265-7032) and legal help for older adults. The Southern Caregiver Resource Center ((858) 268-4432) runs classes and support groups for family caregivers in Imperial County, mostly online. For getting around, IVT RIDE Now offers $1 curb-to-curb rides for people 55 and over in Brawley, Calexico and the El Centro–Heber–Imperial area, and IVT MedTrans runs to San Diego medical centres four days a week. Weekday senior lunches run in Brawley (575 J Street), Calexico (707 Dool Avenue) and El Centro, and weekly or monthly in Holtville, Westmorland and Calipatria.

Screening a caregiver yourself

When you hire directly, screening is your job. Interview in person, call two references, ask whether the caregiver is on the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry or enrolled with IHSS (both verifiable), run a background check through a licensed provider with their consent, and start with paid trial shifts. CaregiverConnect does not run checks itself; caregivers can upload proof of one for a Verified badge after review, and you should still verify independently. The county's 24-hour Adult Abuse Hotline is (760) 337-7878. Our hiring guide covers taxes, overtime and a one-page agreement.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Imperial County: frequently asked questions

How quickly can I find a caregiver in Imperial County?

Your posting is visible to local caregivers the moment you publish it, and you can browse available caregivers before you post. How fast you hear back depends on your schedule and pay; part-time weekday mornings fill faster than overnight or live-in requests.

Can a family member be paid to care for my parent?

Through IHSS, yes, if your parent qualifies for Medi-Cal and the county authorises hours; most Imperial County providers are relatives or friends of the recipient. Privately, you can pay anyone you choose; the household-employer rules still apply.

Does CaregiverConnect screen caregivers?

Not independently. Caregivers may submit proof of a background check from a licensed provider, which our team reviews before showing a Verified badge. You remain responsible for verifying identity, references and history before hiring.

What is free and what do I pay for?

Creating an account, browsing caregivers, posting a care need and receiving applications are free. Reading and sending messages and confirming a hire are part of Family Premium ($24.99 a month, cancel any time). We never take a percentage of what you pay the caregiver.
