Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Santa Ana

Santa Ana is the county seat of Orange County, a city of 312,808 people on 1 January 2026 by the Department of Finance count, and it is where much of the county's care system has its front door: the Social Services Agency's IHSS office and the IHSS Public Authority share an address on West Walnut Street, and the Office on Aging is on South Grand Avenue. The list above is not limited to the city: expect Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, Irvine and Anaheim alongside Santa Ana itself, each showing its city and distance. Postings appear as families publish them, so turn on alerts.

Language is the first thing to put on your profile here. Two out of every three Santa Ana residents aged five and over (66.1%) speak Spanish at home, and 27.9% speak Spanish and report speaking English less than "very well" (ACS 2020–2024). Vietnamese is the second community: 8.1% of residents are Vietnamese, and an ABC7 report places part of Little Saigon inside Santa Ana. If you speak either language, say so in the headline, list the care tasks you will do, and state whether you drive, because the city's senior mobility service is built around trips to its senior center and program activities.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Santa Ana: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (covers Orange County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage

IHSS provider wage, Orange County$18.90CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Orange County projection: 53,070 aide jobs in 2023 to 69,870 in 2033 (+31.7%), about 106,340 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections (Anaheim–Santa Ana–Irvine Metropolitan Division)). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

The BLS figures blend Los Angeles and Orange counties. EDD's projection file for the Anaheim–Santa Ana–Irvine division, which is Orange County alone, puts the aide median at $17.11 an hour and projects 31.7% growth in aide jobs between 2023 and 2033, against 7.9% for all occupations in the county; nursing assistants there have a $22.84 median. Santa Ana has no minimum wage ordinance of its own (the UC Berkeley Labor Center inventory lists no Orange County city), so the state's $16.90 is the legal floor and IHSS pays $18.90. Private rates are agreed with each family. With a $93,999 median household income, many families here benchmark against the IHSS wage; bilingual caregivers who drive and do personal care can ask more.

How to enroll as a provider in Orange County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Orange County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Santa Ana

Santa Ana adds nothing to California's rules, but the county offices that apply them are in the city. A family hiring you itself for non-medical help cannot ask for a state license, since none exists; the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry accepts independents who choose to apply ($35 plus Live Scan, with the PIN CDSS gives independent aides). Agency employers must put their aides on it. IHSS providers enroll through the Orange County IHSS Public Authority at 2020 W. Walnut Street: online orientation videos, electronic SOC 426 and SOC 846 forms, a roughly two-hour in-person appointment with original ID, and fingerprints on the Public Authority's own Live Scan form. Nursing assistants are certified after a CDPH-approved course. State law requires you to report suspected elder abuse; the county's Adult Protective Services line, (800) 451-5155, is staffed around the clock. See the requirements guide.

The area

Santa Ana in numbers

Santa Ana, incorporated in 1886, is younger than the county: the median age is 34.7 against 39.4 countywide, and 11.4% of residents (35,609 people) are 65 or older, compared with 16.3% for Orange County. Yet 29.2% of households include someone 65 or over; only 3.3% are a woman over 65 living alone, so most older residents live with family. 76.6% of residents are Hispanic or Latino, for 77.6% of residents five and up the home language is not English, and 14.5% of residents over 65 live below the poverty line, more than the 10.2% county rate, so IHSS and Medi-Cal cases are a real part of the work (ACS 2020–2024).

Acute hospitals in the city are Orange County Global Medical Center (1001 N. Tustin Ave.) and Coastal Communities Hospital (2701 S. Bristol St.), both with emergency departments; UCI Health–Orange and Providence St. Joseph are a short drive north-east in the City of Orange.
