How to find an in-home caregiver in Jamestown
Jamestown is an unincorporated census-designated place, so the services a family uses come from several sources. IHSS and Adult Protective Services are county programs based on Cedar Road North in Sonora. Primary care is close: Mathiesen Memorial Health Clinic on Seco Street is taking new patients, and its walk-in clinic on Main Street sees same-day patients for illnesses and minor injuries. A parent who needs dialysis can be treated at Satellite Healthcare Jamestown on State Highway 108. What the town does not have is a home care agency: both licensed home care organizations in the county are in Sonora (CDSS, May 2025). Most families here hire a caregiver directly or use IHSS hours.
Write the post around your parent's week. About a quarter of Jamestown households (25.2% in ACS 2020–2024) consist of one resident aged 65-plus who lives alone, so many requests are for someone who checks in daily, cooks and keeps the house running. List fixed appointments such as dialysis days, since a caregiver must plan around them. If your parent prefers Spanish, say so; 7.3% of residents use it at home. The profiles above refresh as caregivers sign up.

Evaluating caregivers in Jamestown
Ask for proof that fits the job. An IHSS provider has enrolled through Tuolumne County Social Services and attended the county orientation. Nurse assistants carry a CDPH certificate; check its number with CDPH. Agency staff are registered home care aides; independent workers may or may not be. Call two of their previous employers, meet in the home where care will happen, and have a relative present for the first paid visit. We at CaregiverConnect confirm no one's identity, training or record. A background report, if you want it, needs the applicant's signed approval and is ordered by you.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Are you based in Jamestown, Sonora or farther out, and how many minutes away is that?
- Could you drive my father to dialysis on Highway 108 on his treatment days and wait or come back for him?
- Have you taken a client to Mathiesen Memorial Health Clinic or the walk-in clinic on Main Street?
- If my mother is approved for IHSS, are you enrolled with the county or ready to enroll?
- My mother lives alone. How would you handle it if she did not answer the door?
- Would you take her to the senior lunch at the Community Hall?
What in-home care costs in Jamestown: hourly rates and schedules
Typical Jamestown requests are an early visit every day to help with washing, clothes and breakfast; a shift built around dialysis days that covers the drive there and back; a midday visit for lunch and company for someone who lives alone; and longer days while a parent recovers from a stay at Adventist Health Sonora.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode nonmetro area (includes Tuolumne County) | $16.52 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Tuolumne County | $17.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
You agree the hourly rate with the caregiver. With no local wage law in unincorporated Jamestown, the state's $16.90 is the minimum. For comparison, the county pays IHSS providers $17.90, BLS found a $16.52 regional aide median (May 2025), and CareScout reported $40 an hour as the 2025 agency median statewide. Directly hired personal attendants qualify for overtime when one shift lasts more than nine hours, or when weekly hours exceed 45. If your parent may qualify for Medi-Cal, call 209-533-5711 about IHSS before you commit to private pay.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring a caregiver in Jamestown: frequently asked questions
Is there a home care agency in Jamestown?
No licensed home care organization lists a Jamestown address in the May 2025 CDSS file; the two in the county are in Sonora. Most Jamestown families employ a caregiver themselves or use IHSS.
Is there an assisted living or care home in Jamestown?
Not an open one. The two Jamestown elderly care home records in the May 2025 CDSS file are both marked closed. The county's licensed homes are in Sonora.
Who runs services in Jamestown if there is no city?
Jamestown is unincorporated, so county departments handle IHSS and APS from Sonora. Local health care comes from Mathiesen Memorial Health Clinic, which the Chicken Ranch Rancheria Me-Wuk Indians opened in 2008, and its walk-in clinic, and family support from the school district's resource center.
Can a caregiver take my father to dialysis?
Yes, if you agree it in advance. Satellite Healthcare Jamestown is on State Highway 108. Confirm the caregiver's insurance covers driving a client, and write the dialysis schedule into your agreement.
