Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Amador County
Amador is a small county to work in. DOF's estimate for January 1, 2026 is 39,618 residents. The county describes itself as lying about 45 miles southeast of Sacramento, with land running from roughly 250 feet in the west to over 9,000 feet in the east. Nearly every office an IHSS provider deals with shares one address: the county's IHSS intake desk, its APS unit and the Public Authority all give 10877 Conductor Boulevard, Sutter Creek, as their address.
Most of the county's licensed care is clustered around Jackson, the county seat. State health facility data dated September 16, 2026 put the county's one general hospital, its one skilled nursing facility, three home health agencies and its hospice there. Families farther out, along the Highway 88 corridor or near Plymouth, tend to need a caregiver with a car. In ACS 2020–2024, 73.9% of Amador workers drove to work alone and the average trip took 34.0 minutes, so say in your profile which communities you will cover and whether your car is available for appointment runs.

Caregiver pay in Amador County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Amador and six other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Amador and six other counties) | $16.52 median ($17.48 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 2,220 jobs; concentration 1.27× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Amador County | $19.40 | CDSS; effective August 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Amador and six other counties) | $22.79 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
BLS publishes no wage table for Amador alone. Its May 2025 definitions place the county in a seven-county area with Alpine, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono and Tuolumne. In that area BLS counted 2,220 aide jobs (SOC 31-1120), paying $16.52 at the median and $17.48 on average. The CDSS table sets Amador IHSS pay at $19.40 an hour starting August 1, 2026, which is $2.50 above California's $16.90 minimum; the Public Authority's own page still shows the earlier $18.00 rate from January 2025, so go by the CDSS figure. UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory has no Amador city or county entry, so private Amador clients must pay at least California's $16.90. A personal attendant who puts in over nine hours on a single workday, or over 45 in one workweek, is owed overtime under the state's domestic worker rules; the DIR FAQ explains who qualifies.
About 5.8% of Amador County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. California's average over those months was 5.3%, and the county's monthly rate ranged from 4.9% to 6.5%. Jackson's average, 4.6%, was below both. With that mix, steady paid hours for an older neighbor or a relative through Amador County IHSS are one of the more reliable local jobs, and nursing assistants in the seven-county area earn a higher median, $22.79.
How to enroll as a provider in Amador County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Amador County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Amador County
Private, non-medical help that an Amador family hires you for directly is not a licensed occupation in California; only aides employed by an agency are obliged to be listed with the state's registry of home care aides. IHSS work is different. The Public Authority, (209) 223-6781, requires online enrollment through its portal, the state and Public Authority orientation videos, an SEIU presentation, e-signed forms, and an in-person visit at which you present your Social Security card plus a driver's license or other federal or state photo ID. Live Scan fingerprints follow, at your own cost of $48 to $80, and payroll starts once your client signs the SOC 426A. Paid caregivers are mandated reporters of suspected elder and dependent adult abuse under state law. See California caregiver requirements for the full picture.

Amador County in numbers
Half of Amador residents are older than 49.7, according to ACS 2020–2024, which also counts 11,423 residents aged 65 or over (27.6%), 1,094 of them 85 or older. Those totals include 3,596 people in group quarters; CDPH lists a correctional treatment center at Mule Creek Prison in Ione, and the county skews 54.7% male. Household figures avoid that distortion: 46.8% of the county's 16,091 households include someone 65 or older, and a third (33.0%) of people 65 and older have a disability. The median Amador household brings in $88,044, and the median rent is $1,421.
Licensed care is thin. Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson holds a 52-bed license, and HCAI rates its emergency service as basic; and Kit Carson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Jackson, has 199. The May 2025 Community Care Licensing files list six licensed elderly care homes and two licensed home care organizations, all with Jackson or Sutter Creek addresses, so much of the paid care at home is IHSS or direct hire. Town detail is on the Jackson, Sutter Creek and Ione pages; neighboring markets are on the Calaveras County and El Dorado County pages.
