Caregiver pay in Calaveras County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Calaveras and six other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS does not publish wages for Calaveras County by itself. Its May 2025 area definitions group the county with Alpine, Amador, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono and Tuolumne. Its 2,220 aides (SOC 31-1120) had a median wage of $16.52 and a mean of $17.48 an hour; nursing assistants there earned a $22.79 median. Calaveras County IHSS providers have earned $17.89 since January 1, 2026, which is 99 cents above the $16.90 state minimum. No local minimum wage appears for the county in UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory. Direct employers owe a personal attendant time-and-a-half beyond 9 daily or 45 weekly hours.

About 6.2% of Calaveras County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% statewide; monthly rates ranged from 5.4% to 6.9%. The averages were higher in San Andreas (9.0%) and Copperopolis (7.7%), though EDD's figures for those unincorporated places are derived from county totals and are approximate. When local jobs are that uneven, Calaveras County IHSS hours spent caring for a family member or neighbor offer dependable pay close to home.

How to enroll as a provider in Calaveras County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Calaveras County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Calaveras County

Calaveras families who pay you directly for household and personal help need not see a state license. Only licensed agencies must place their aides on the $35 Home Care Aide Registry. IHSS providers sign up with the Calaveras County IHSS Public Authority, which shares the CalWORKs building at 509 East Saint Charles Street in San Andreas, (209) 754-6544, weekdays 8 to 4:30. Enrollment is online: required videos, an SEIU presentation on Zoom, e-signed forms, then an appointment where you show photo ID and a Social Security card, along with your client's signed SOC 426A. Fingerprinting is by Live Scan. California law requires anyone paid to give care to tell APS or police when they suspect an elder or dependent adult is being harmed. Calaveras County in numbers

Calaveras is an older county. The median resident is 52.0 years old, and ACS 2020–2024 counts 13,517 residents aged 65 or over (29.2%), including 1,211 aged 85 or over. Little of that care happens in facilities. As of the CDPH listing's September 16, 2026 data date, there is one hospital in the county, Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas, a 25-bed critical access hospital with a basic emergency department (HCAI), and one skilled nursing facility, Golden San Andreas Care Center (99 beds). CDPH lists no home health agency or hospice with a Calaveras address. CDSS licensing data show two licensed elderly residential care homes and no licensed home care organization, so families often hire directly. Town detail is on the San Andreas and Copperopolis pages; nearby markets are covered on the San Joaquin County and Stanislaus County pages.
