Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Biggs
The City of Biggs describes itself as a full-service general law city with rice land and walnut orchards on every side, about four miles north of Gridley, 13 miles west of the county government offices in Oroville and roughly 25 miles south of Chico. Inside its 338 acres there is no hospital, clinic or licensed care home: neither the CDPH health facility file nor the CDSS licensing files list a single facility with a Biggs address. For a caregiver, that means the work in Biggs is almost entirely in private homes, and the clinic, pharmacy and hospital trips go to Gridley, Oroville or Chico.
Your profile should answer the questions a Biggs family will have. Do you drive, will you go to Orchard Hospital in Gridley or an Oroville specialist, and can you start early? Commutes here are mostly by car: ACS 2020–2024 finds 85.5% of working residents driving alone and none counted on public transit, with a 24.2-minute average trip. Spanish is spoken at home by 20.2% of residents five and older, and 7.6% are more at ease in Spanish than English, so list it if you speak it.

Caregiver pay in Biggs: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Chico, CA metro (Butte County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Chico, CA metro (Butte County) | $16.50 median ($17.11 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,940 jobs; concentration 2.74× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Butte County | $17.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 9.0% of Biggs's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. Butte County as a whole averaged 6.1% and the state 5.3%. Biggs's labor force is only about 917 people, and EDD estimates small places from county totals, so treat 9.0% as a rough reading; the monthly numbers stayed between 7.9% and 9.8%. In a town with that little local hiring, an IHSS client nearby is steady work: Butte County providers have earned $17.90 an hour since the start of 2026; enrollment is covered in our guide to IHSS in Butte County.
Butte County's IHSS page spells out the federal overtime rules for providers. Hours over 40 in a workweek, which runs Sunday through Saturday, are paid as overtime; a provider with one recipient can work up to 70 hours and 45 minutes a week, and one with several up to 66. Time spent driving directly between two recipients' homes is paid for up to seven hours a week. Private work is different. Biggs passes no wage law of its own (UC Berkeley's inventory has no entry for it), so $16.90 sets the floor, and family employers follow the state's domestic worker overtime rule. Local incomes are higher than in many farm towns: ACS puts the median household income at $84,914 and median gross rent at $1,474.
How to enroll as a provider in Butte County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Butte County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Biggs
State rules apply in Biggs as anywhere else in California. Bathing, meals, errands and company for a Biggs household that pays you itself require no state license. The aide registry is an agency obligation, and no licensed home care organization lists a Biggs address. Nursing assistant posts at Orchard Hospital or a skilled nursing facility call for CDPH certification. Butte County IHSS enrollment starts online, once a recipient has chosen you or the Public Authority has approved your registry application, and ends with an in-person appointment where you show an original photo ID and a Social Security card with the same name. Fingerprints go on the county's own Live Scan form, and you will be traveling for them: the state's site list for Butte has nothing in Biggs, only Chico, Oroville and Paradise. Like every paid caregiver in California, you must report suspected abuse of an elder. More detail is on the Butte County page and in our guide to California caregiver rules.

Biggs in numbers
State demographers put Biggs at 1,970 people at the start of 2026. Sampled across 2020–2024, with wide margins, the ACS describes a young town: a median age of 28.4, with 281 residents (12.2%) aged 65 or older and 33 aged 85 or older. A third of the older residents (33.5%) report a disability. Of 746 households, 196 (26.3%) have someone 65 or older living in them. Farm work, forestry and similar industries account for 11.6% of employed residents; schools, health care and social assistance, 19.8%. The city says it was founded in 1871, incorporated in 1903, and runs its own electric utility.
Two things set Biggs apart from its neighbors for care work. It has no paratransit of its own: B-Line says it does not run paratransit to Gridley and Biggs, and the Gridley Feather Flyer serves only riders inside Gridley city limits, so a client who cannot manage the bus depends on a caregiver who drives or on B-Line's pre-booked PLUS Regional medical trips. And with no licensed facility in town, round-the-clock care means leaving Biggs, so for an older resident who wants to stay, care at home is the only local option. Nearby pages cover Gridley, Palermo and Oroville.
