How to find an in-home caregiver in Biggs

Biggs is a city of 1,970 people, by the 2026 state estimate, and almost every service an older resident uses sits outside its limits. The state's licensing files list no clinic, hospital, nursing home or residential care home with a Biggs address, so the people who answer a Biggs request may live in town or in Gridley, Live Oak or Oroville, and the job will usually include trips to one of them. Tell applicants up front if driving is expected, which appointments are coming up, and whether the house has steps, a walk-in shower or other things that affect the work.

Write the schedule as exactly as you can: which days, what time the first visit starts, and whether evenings or a Saturday are involved. Spanish is the language of the household for 20.2% of Biggs residents over the age of four (ACS 2020–2024); when that includes your parent, request a Spanish speaker in the first line. Profiles closest to 95917 come up first; new ones join the list as caregivers register.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Biggs

Sort applicants by what you can confirm. A CNA holds a CDPH certificate. Someone who has worked for Butte County IHSS completed the Public Authority's in-person enrollment, bringing original identity papers, and went through a Department of Justice Live Scan check. Aides employed by licensed agencies must be registered as home care aides; independents you hire yourself generally do not, and California does not require them to. Then ring two earlier employers, interview at the Biggs house so your parent can weigh in, and book a first morning that you pay for and watch. CaregiverConnect does not screen or vet caregivers. A background report is something your family orders, after the applicant signs a consent form.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • When my mother has a doctor visit in Gridley or Oroville, can you drive her there in your own car and stay until she is done?
  • Have you used B-Line PLUS Regional or Route 30 with a client before?
  • Could you bring her to Orchard Horizon Senior Center activities in Gridley?
  • What would you do if she became dizzy or fell while I was at work?
  • Is Spanish one of your languages?
  • Would you enroll as a Butte County IHSS provider if she is approved for hours?
  • Which days could you never cover, and who would fill in?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Biggs: hourly rates and schedules

Early weekday visits. Help getting up, washed and fed, and medication set out, before a working relative leaves. Appointment mornings. PLUS Regional pickups run between 7:00 and 8:45 a.m., with appointments to be booked between 9 and noon, and a caregiver booked for the whole morning can ride along as the registered attendant. Respite. An afternoon or a Saturday giving the relative who carries the daily load a few hours off.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

No Biggs ordinance raises the wage above California's $16.90, according to UC Berkeley's inventory, so that is the lowest hourly rate a family here may pay. Other reference points: in May 2025 the typical Butte County aide earned $16.50 an hour by BLS figures, IHSS providers in the county get $17.90, and a California agency bills about $40, CareScout's 2025 statewide median. Hire directly and the state's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights holds you responsible for overtime on long days and long weeks. Biggs households have a median income of $84,914 in ACS, but long hours add up quickly, and IHSS is the county route for those who qualify: the county's own description is physical support for eligible aged, blind or disabled adults and children who could not otherwise remain safely in their homes. Applications start with a call to 530-552-6161.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Biggs: frequently asked questions

Does Biggs have a nursing home or assisted living?

No. Neither CDPH nor the CDSS licensing files show a skilled nursing facility, RCFE or adult residential home inside Biggs. For that level of care families look to Gridley, Oroville or Chico; at home, a private caregiver or IHSS is the option.

Is there a dial-a-ride for seniors in Biggs?

Not a local one. B-Line states that it provides no paratransit to Gridley and Biggs, and Gridley's Feather Flyer stays inside Gridley's limits. For medical trips, seniors 65 and older can register for PLUS Regional, which picks up in Biggs on set weekdays.

Can a caregiver ride along on PLUS Regional?

Yes, if the attendant is registered in advance. B-Line charges a personal care attendant $5 one way or $7.50 round trip, and fares are paid when you book; cash is not taken on the vehicle.

Where can my father eat a senior lunch near Biggs?

The Passages nutrition page names just two Butte County dining sites, one in Chico and one in Oroville, including the Oroville Senior Center on Myers Street from Monday to Thursday, with reservations 48 hours ahead on 898-4224. None is listed in Biggs or Gridley.

My father lives in Biggs. How does he apply for IHSS?

Call Butte County on 530-552-6161. If the county approves hours, your parent names the provider on form SOC 426A, and that person, who can be someone you found here, is paid $17.90 an hour once enrolled.

What does CaregiverConnect cost a Biggs family?

Nothing to post a request. Messaging and hiring need Family Premium, priced at $24.99 per month. We leave background checks to you.
