Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Paradise

Paradise is an incorporated town in Butte County that the Department of Finance counted at 10,581 residents on January 1, 2026, up from 9,686 a year earlier. The 2018 Camp Fire explains that growth curve. CAL FIRE's incident page records that the fire started on November 8, 2018, burned 153,336 acres, destroyed 18,804 structures and killed 85 civilians before it was contained on November 25. The town that families are moving back into is a mix of new houses and older owners, and a quarter of all homes counted in the ACS 2020–2024 were built in 2020 or later.

For a caregiver that shapes the work in three ways. Clients are older than in most Butte County towns: the ACS puts the median age at 57.4 and the share of residents 65 and over at 40.9%, and 59.8% of households include someone in that age group. Medical visits cluster on Skyway, where Adventist Health runs the Feather River Health Center. And every client household needs an evacuation plan, which the Town of Paradise asks residents to review each year. A profile that says you can drive a client, help them register for alerts and keep a go-bag ready answers questions Ridge families actually ask.

Set your search radius to cover Paradise and Magalia, and Chico as well if you will commute. Families on the Ridge often prefer someone who already lives up the hill, so say where you are based and whether your car handles winter roads.

Types of caregiver jobs in Paradise

Expect requests for companionship and housekeeping for a widowed parent in a rebuilt home, rides to the Feather River Health Center or to Enloe in Chico, help after a hospital stay, and IHSS hours for a relative who qualifies through Medi-Cal. Many Ridge clients are veterans (15.6% of adults in the ACS), so experience with VA paperwork is useful. If you are new, start with errands, meals and medication reminders and add hands-on personal care once you have training.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Paradise: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Chico, CA metro (Butte County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Chico, CA metro (Butte County)$16.50 median ($17.11 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,940 jobs; concentration 2.74× national
IHSS provider wage, Butte County$17.90CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 10.9% of Paradise's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, against 6.1% for Butte County and 5.3% for California. In a town still rebuilding, IHSS is one of the steadier sources of paid care: a client approved by the county pays the provider $17.90 an hour for the authorized hours, and the provider can be a family member or neighbor. The IHSS Butte County guide covers enrollment. Private work starts at the state minimum of $16.90: neither the Town nor Butte County has a wage ordinance of its own, according to the UC Berkeley Labor Center tracker. The Chico metro figures above cover the whole county; Ridge jobs that add driving or overnight cover are where a higher private rate is easiest to justify.

How to enroll as a provider in Butte County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Butte County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Paradise

Paradise follows the state rules. Working straight for a household in non-medical care needs no license; registry listing as a home care aide becomes mandatory only once a licensed agency puts you on its payroll; and CNA certification from CDPH is what nursing facilities and hospitals ask for. To be paid through IHSS, you enroll with the Butte County IHSS Public Authority in Oroville (78 Table Mountain Blvd, toll free 855-398-8899). You can only start once a recipient has been approved and has picked you, or once the registry has accepted your application. The order is: set up the online account, sit through the orientation films, sign SOC 426 and SOC 846 electronically, show matching photo ID and Social Security card at an Oroville appointment, then get fingerprinted with the county's own Live Scan form. As a caregiver you must report suspected elder abuse (WIC §15630); the county's Adult Protective Services line, 800-664-9774, is answered around the clock. More in the requirements guide.

Paradise in numbers

The ACS 2020–2024 survey estimate for Paradise is 7,392 people, lower than the 2026 DOF count because the survey years straddle the rebuild. In that estimate, 22.5% of residents 65 and over report a disability, and about one household in five is an older adult living alone (10.5% men, 11.3% women). English is spoken at home by nearly everyone (4.7% speak another language). Three in four occupied homes are owner-occupied, the median home value is $416,000 and median rent is $1,241. Workers average 24.3 minutes to work, and 27.3% of employed residents work in education, health care and social assistance. The Town's own page puts Paradise on a ridge 2,000 to 2,800 feet above the valley floor, with occasional winter snow.

County-wide services, the Oroville offices and Chico are covered on the Butte County page; if you also take valley clients, see Chico and Oroville.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Paradise: frequently asked questions

Are there caregiver jobs in Paradise after the Camp Fire?

Yes. The town grew 9.2% in the year to January 2026 by DOF figures, and its population is older than the county as a whole. Ridge postings appear in the list above when families publish them; turn on alerts for ZIP 95969.

How do I become an IHSS provider for a Paradise client?

Once the client is approved, open an online account with the Butte County IHSS Public Authority, watch the orientation, sign SOC 426 and SOC 846, attend the Oroville appointment, and complete the Live Scan. The client then designates you on a SOC 426A. The rate is $17.90 an hour.

Can I get around the Ridge without a car?

Partly. FLEX covers Paradise and Magalia for $2 a ride on weekdays and Saturdays, and Route 41 runs to downtown Chico a few times a day. There is no Sunday FLEX service, so weekend shifts usually need a car.

What should a Paradise caregiver know about evacuations?

The Town publishes a yearly evacuation guide, sends alerts through Smart911/RAVE and tests its sirens at noon on the 15th of each month. Butte County also keeps a voluntary Special Needs Awareness Program list for people who will need help evacuating; packets come from 530-538-7538.

Where do Paradise clients see a doctor?

Many use the Feather River Health Center at 5125 Skyway, which has primary care, Rapid Care and imaging. Adventist Health added a Paradise laboratory site at 6283 Clark Road, Suite 5, in December 2025. Hospital care is in the valley, for example Enloe Medical Center on the Esplanade in Chico.

Where can I train as a CNA near Paradise?

Butte College offers the CNA certificate (NSG 100 and NSG 101) with special admission through its Nursing Department; the main campus is on Butte Campus Drive in Oroville. Until you are certified, non-medical private and IHSS work needs no license.
