Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Magalia
Magalia has no municipal government of its own. It is a census-designated place, and ACS 2020–2024 puts its population at 7,389 (margin of error 1,013). Residents are older than the county average: the median age is 47.8, and 1,694 people, or 22.9%, are 65 or over, including 105 aged 85 and up. Some 1,224 of Magalia's 2,999 households (40.8%) include an older member, and 406 consist of a person 65 or older living alone, 240 of them women. Among residents 65 and over, 36.5% report a disability. Half of all households (50.5%) receive Social Security income. These are the clients a Magalia caregiver usually works for: retirees who want to stay in their own homes and need help with housework, meals, bathing or getting to the doctor.
Distances are longer than in town. ACS gives Magalia workers an average commute of 37.3 minutes, well above the county's 21.0, and 16.7% work from home. Only 1.4% of households lack a vehicle, so most clients own a car, but many no longer drive it. Say in your profile whether you can drive a client's car or your own, and whether you can cover Paradise and Chico as well for appointments in those towns.

Types of caregiver jobs in Magalia
Typical posts from the Ridge ask for a few weekday mornings of personal care and light housekeeping, rides to medical appointments, and company for someone who lives alone. Longer blocks or overnight stays come up when a client returns from a hospital in Chico or Oroville. Starting out without experience? Errands, cooking and companionship are a common first step, and a CNA course opens the way to hands-on care and facility work.

Caregiver pay in Magalia: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Chico, CA metro (Butte County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Chico, CA metro (Butte County) | $16.50 median ($17.11 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,940 jobs; concentration 2.74× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Butte County | $17.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 8.5% of Magalia's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, against a Butte County average of 6.1% and a statewide 5.3%. EDD models unincorporated places such as Magalia from county totals, so the number is approximate; monthly rates ran from 7.3% to 9.2% for a labor force of roughly 2,650. With so many older households nearby, regular care hours can be a dependable source of income, and the Butte County IHSS program pays providers $17.90 an hour.
Magalia has no wage ordinance of its own in the UC Berkeley Labor Center inventory, so private families must pay at least California's $16.90, and a personal attendant who works beyond 9 daily or 45 weekly hours is due overtime of one and a half times the base rate. The ACS median household income is $56,920, below the county's $67,928, and many clients live on fixed retirement income. Combining an IHSS client with part-time private work is a realistic way to build a full week.
How to enroll as a provider in Butte County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Butte County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Magalia
No Magalia permit or local license applies to caregivers. Under state law, a family hiring you directly for non-medical help cannot require a license, and Home Care Aide Registry enrollment is required only of aides employed by a licensed home care organization; CDSS's May 2025 files list none in Magalia. To become an IHSS provider, start with the Butte County IHSS Public Authority, based in Oroville (toll free 1-855-398-8899). You need an IHSS client who has been approved, or an approved registry application, before you open your online enrollment account. You then enter the client's name and seven-digit IHSS case number, watch the orientation videos, sign the SOC 426 and SOC 846, get fingerprinted on the Butte County Live Scan form, and bring original ID and a Social Security card to an in-person appointment. Paid caregivers must report suspected elder abuse. See the requirements guide for detail.
