Pay

Caregiver pay in Lassen County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Lassen and nine other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS pools Lassen with Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Modoc, Siskiyou, Trinity, Tehama, Glenn and Colusa counties in one nonmetropolitan area. In that pooled area it counted 5,000 aides in home health and personal care work in May 2025, whose hourly pay had a $16.50 midpoint and a $17.00 mean; the nursing assistant median was $22.66. Since January 1, 2026, Lassen County IHSS providers have earned $17.55 an hour, 65 cents over the $16.90 state minimum. No Lassen ordinance appears in UC Berkeley's inventory, which leaves $16.90 as the private-pay floor; personal attendants earn overtime once a workday passes nine hours or a workweek passes 45. CDSS also caps an IHSS provider at 66 hours a week across all recipients combined, unless an exemption applies.

About 6.7% of Lassen County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% statewide; Susanville's own average was 7.4%. Public administration employs 26.4% of working county residents in the 2020–2024 ACS, more than any other industry group. Where so much work depends on government payrolls, paid care for a parent or neighbor through IHSS in Lassen County is one of the few steady openings that does not depend on a single employer.

How to enroll as a provider in Lassen County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Lassen County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Lassen County

Caring for a family directly, without medical tasks, needs no state license. Lassen caregivers who sign on with a licensed agency are then required to register as home care aides with the state; independents can skip it. Lassen County runs IHSS through its Adult Services office at 1400 Chestnut Street, Suite C, in Susanville, open Monday to Friday from 8 to 5 on 530-251-8158. CDSS lists the provider steps as a county orientation, the SOC 426 enrollment form, the SOC 846 provider agreement and a Department of Justice fingerprint check. A job in a skilled nursing facility calls for a CDPH nurse assistant certificate. Every paid caregiver must report suspected elder or dependent adult abuse. See the California caregiver requirements guide for statewide rules.

Lassen Community College's health program pages describe vocational nursing, registered nursing and medical assisting, but no CNA course. Before enrolling elsewhere, ask the nursing home which approved program it accepts.
