Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Milpitas

Milpitas had 82,107 residents on January 1, 2026, by the state's count, and it is a city of large households: 3.1 people on average (ACS 2020–2024), with someone aged 65 or older in 28.3% of homes. Many of the requests a caregiver sees here come from adult children who share a house with a parent and need daytime cover while they are at work. Others come from the 1,330 households where a person over 65 lives alone, often an hour's drive or a flight away from the relatives who are arranging help. Postings with the 95035 ZIP code appear at the top of this page once a family publishes; caregivers based in San Jose, Fremont or Santa Clara can apply as well if Milpitas falls inside their travel radius.

Language is the detail Milpitas families read first. Among residents five and older, 14.6% speak Chinese at home, 11.9% Vietnamese, 7.8% Tagalog and 8.8% Spanish, and another 12.9% use some other Indo-European tongue, a census category covering the languages of India. If you can talk with a grandmother in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese or Tagalog, say so at the very top of your profile, and mention whether you can read medicine labels or cook familiar meals. Getting there matters too. Most households own two or more cars, but the Milpitas BART station, which connects to VTA light rail, gives caregivers coming from Fremont, Berryessa or downtown San Jose a way in without driving.

Types of caregiver jobs in Milpitas

Typical requests: weekday companionship and meal preparation for a parent while the family works, bathing and dressing help in the morning, rides to appointments and to the senior lunch, overnight presence for someone with dementia, and short blocks of care after a hospital stay. If you have no paid experience, companion and errand work is the usual first job; the county's free IHSS provider classes and Mission College's nursing assistant course are the two clearest next steps.

Caregiver pay in Milpitas: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the San Jose–Sunnyvale–Santa Clara, CA metro (Santa Clara and San Benito counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Milpitas raised its minimum wage from $18.20 to $18.50 on July 1, 2026, and adjusts it every July by the Bay Area consumer price index. The ordinance covers employers that hold a Milpitas business license or keep a business facility in the city, for each employee putting in two or more hours weekly inside Milpitas, so a home care agency sending you to a client here owes at least $18.50. That is $1.60 above the state rate and slightly above the $18.09 San Jose-area median for personal care and home health aides. IHSS providers in the county earn $20.44, the figure most experienced independent caregivers measure private offers against. The ordinance does not say how it treats a family that hires you directly; San Jose's Office of Equality Assurance (OEA) enforces it for Milpitas at 408-535-8430 or MyWage@sanjoseca.gov and can tell you whether you are covered.

How to enroll as a provider in Santa Clara County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Santa Clara County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Milpitas

No license is needed to give non-medical care to a Milpitas family you work for directly. The state Home Care Aide Registry charges a $35 fee; independents may skip it, though any licensed home care agency will require it before placing you. IHSS pay requires enrollment with Public Authority Services by Sourcewise in San Jose: online forms and state training videos first, then a group orientation at SEIU Local 2015, 97 East Brokaw Road, and an in-person appointment with fingerprinting. Call the Public Authority's enrollment line, (408) 350-3252, with questions. A CDPH nurse assistant certificate is needed before you take on nursing tasks or work in a facility. State law makes every caregiver a mandated reporter: if you suspect an elder or dependent adult is being harmed, call the county Adult Protective Services hotline, (408) 975-4900, at any hour. More in the California caregiver requirements guide.

Milpitas in numbers

ACS 2020–2024 counts 10,897 Milpitas residents aged 65 and over, 13.9% of the city, including 1,567 who have passed 85; half of all residents are younger than 36.8. 55.4% of residents were born abroad, almost nine in ten of those born in Asia. Households have a median income of $178,798, and median gross rent $3,120, and a quarter of working residents (25.2%) did their jobs from home, which explains why some families ask for help only on office days. 32.0% of residents over 65 report a disability.

The state aging directory lists two community-based adult services centers in the city, Silicon Valley Adult Day Health Care Center on South Milpitas Boulevard and Prestige Adult Day Health Care on South Main Street, and a Santa Clara County senior lunch served weekdays at the Barbara Lee Senior Center. A family may pair a day center with a few hours of home care, which shapes the shifts you are offered. Neighboring pages: San Jose, Fremont and Santa Clara, or the Santa Clara County overview.
