Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Mojave
Mojave is a census-designated place, which the Census Bureau defines as an unincorporated community with no functioning government of its own, so the public services a caregiver deals with here come from Kern County. What Mojave does have is transit. The Carl's Jr. stop on Inyo Street is a timed stop on Kern Transit Routes 100, 230, 240 and 250, so several eastern Kern routes connect in Mojave. Route 100 runs through Tehachapi to Bakersfield one way and through Rosamond to Lancaster the other, Route 250 links Mojave with California City as well as Rosamond and Lancaster, Route 240 goes out to North Edwards and Boron, and Route 230 continues to Ridgecrest three days a week. A caregiver based here can reasonably take clients in more than one of those towns.
About 17.9% of Mojave's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, while the averages were 8.7% in Kern County and 5.3% in California. EDD builds its estimates for small places like Mojave from county totals, so read the figure as approximate. Where unemployment runs this high, an IHSS client, often a family member already on Medi-Cal, gives you predictable county-paid hours; the Kern County IHSS guide walks through how that works.
When you write your profile, name the routes and towns you can reach, the days you are free and whether you can work early: the first weekday Route 100 bus toward Bakersfield leaves Mojave at 6:01 a.m. Families in California City, Tehachapi and Boron can find your profile when your travel radius reaches them.

Types of caregiver jobs in Mojave
Mojave's population is young, so the requests will be fewer but specific. In the 2020–2024 survey, 450 residents were 65 or older and 340 households (19.6%) included someone that age; 86 older householders lived alone. The survey puts 56.9% of older residents as having a disability, but the sample is small and the margin of error, about 20 points either way, is wide. Expect personal care for an adult with a disability, help after a hospital stay in Lancaster or Tehachapi, and short visits to an older person living alone. Companion and errand shifts are the usual starting point without paid experience.

Caregiver pay in Mojave: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Bakersfield–Delano, CA metro (Kern County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Bakersfield–Delano, CA metro (Kern County) | $16.50 median ($16.92 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 17,270 jobs; concentration 1.84× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Kern County | $17.90 | CDSS; effective July 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Kern County projection: 14,340 aide jobs in 2023 to 19,940 in 2033 (+39.1%), about 30,570 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.
No pay figure is published for Mojave alone; these are metro and county numbers. With no city government, Mojave has no wage ordinance, and the Labor Center at UC Berkeley records none for Kern County, so private work starts at California's $16.90. IHSS pays $17.90 an hour for authorized hours. Incomes are low: half of households earn under $55,660 a year, and 40.3% drew CalFresh at some point during the survey years. Families paying privately will usually offer near the minimum, so charge separately for overnights and for driving to Lancaster or Bakersfield. Agency work at the licensed home health agency on Airport Boulevard is a different job, with its own pay and requirements.
How to enroll as a provider in Kern County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Kern County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Mojave
Private, non-medical work for a Mojave household requires no license. Kern County IHSS enrollment has five steps: an online provider account with mandatory videos, Live Scan fingerprints at your own cost, an in-person orientation (the county wants your original Social Security card and a government photo ID, with names that match exactly), the SIP packet with W-4, I-9 and SOC 426A for each client, and an Electronic Services Portal account for timesheets. The county IHSS office, 5357 Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield, is about 64 road miles away. Agency work means getting onto the Home Care Aide Registry, and a home health agency may also look for a CDPH-issued CNA or HHA certificate. Under state law a paid caregiver must report suspected abuse; call Kern County APS toll-free at (800) 277-7866. The rest is in the requirements guide.

Caregiver jobs in Mojave: frequently asked questions
Can I work as a caregiver in Mojave without a car?
Yes, within limits. Buses on four county routes call at the Carl's Jr. on Inyo Street, and the Mojave Dial-A-Ride handles trips around town Monday to Saturday. Routes 230 and 240 run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only, so check those days first.
Is there a home health agency in Mojave?
The state's facility list shows one licensed home health agency with a Mojave address, Dependable Home Health on Airport Boulevard. Agencies hire their own staff and usually want CNA or HHA certification; families on CaregiverConnect hire you directly instead.
Where is the nearest CNA program?
Cerro Coso Community College runs CNA classes at several sites, including its Ridgecrest campus, and teaches the Home Health Aide course there. Route 230 connects Mojave with Ridgecrest on three weekdays, so compare class times with the timetable before you enroll.
What does IHSS pay a provider in Mojave?
Kern County's rate of $17.90 an hour, effective July 1, 2026. If you also take a client across the county line in Los Angeles County, that client's hours are paid at the Los Angeles County rate.
Does Mojave have a senior center or senior lunch site?
The county's senior nutrition list has no Mojave site. The closest are the California City Senior Center on Heather Avenue and the Rosamond Senior Center at Hummel Hall, which is a stop on Route 250. Clients who attend one may want a caregiver to ride with them.
Does Mojave have its own minimum wage?
No. Without a city government Mojave has no wage ordinance, and Kern County has none in the UC Berkeley Labor Center's list either, which makes $16.90, California's rate, the floor.
