Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Lancaster

Lancaster is a charter city in the western Mojave Desert, about 70 miles north of downtown Los Angeles by I-5 and State Route 14 and nine miles south of the Kern County line. The San Gabriel Mountains separate it from the Los Angeles Basin, so for most caregivers here the realistic work area is the valley itself rather than the basin on the far side of the mountains. Google's suggestions for this city include "caregiver jobs lancaster ca no experience needed" and "in home care jobs lancaster ca", so if you are new to paid care you are not alone in looking here.

Distances in the valley are long. Postings above show each family's ZIP code (the city uses 93534, 93535 and 93536, and 93536 also covers most of Quartz Hill) and the distance from you, so pick a radius you can drive every day, not just once. If you do not drive, say so in your profile; families near the Lancaster Metrolink station or an AVTA line can still work.

Expect companionship and help at home for a parent living alone, meals and medication reminders, rides to medical appointments on Avenue J and Avenue I, short-term help after a hospital discharge, and respite for a spouse. If you have never been paid for care, start with household tasks and company; hands-on personal care and dementia work usually goes to people who can talk through real examples.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Lancaster: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties)$16.50 median ($17.25 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 385,530 jobs; concentration 2.22× national
IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County$19.64CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

No Lancaster ordinance shows up in the Berkeley Labor Center's tracker of local wage laws, which leaves $16.90 as the floor inside city limits. Quartz Hill, Lake Los Angeles and Littlerock are unincorporated, and there Los Angeles County's own minimum of $18.47 has applied since July 1, 2026 to staff of businesses and nonprofits, home-care agencies among them. The BLS figures above cover the whole Los Angeles and Orange County metro, not the valley alone; Lancaster's median household income is $81,511 (ACS 2020–2024), lower than the county's $90,112, and private rates are negotiated against that. IHSS pays $19.64 everywhere in the county, from Santa Monica to the high desert, so in Lancaster terms it is a comparatively strong wage.

How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Lancaster

In Lancaster the rules are California's, applied through Los Angeles County offices. A Lancaster household paying you itself for non-medical help needs you to hold no state license; registering as a home care aide is your choice until an agency hires you, at which point it is required. IHSS is a separate track run by DPSS: attend an in-person orientation, sign the SOC 426 and SOC 846, and clear a fingerprint-based criminal background check within 90 days (a 45-day extension is possible for good cause). The Personal Assistance Services Council keeps the county IHSS registry and runs a 24-hour provider background-check hotline, (877) 565-4482. Hospital and nursing-home jobs need CDPH nursing-assistant certification. If you see signs that an older client is being harmed, the county's Elder & Dependent Abuse line is (877) 477-3646. For the long version, read our guide to California caregiver rules.

Caregiver jobs in Lancaster: frequently asked questions

Antelope Valley resident: how do I sign up to be paid through IHSS?

Through Los Angeles County DPSS, which schedules the in-person orientation and takes your SOC 426 and SOC 846; the Personal Assistance Services Council in Pasadena handles the registry by phone at (877) 565-4477.
