Types of caregiver jobs in Covina

Covina families tend to post after a change: a discharge from Inter-Community, a parent moving home from a rehab stay at The Rowland or Covina Rehabilitation Center, or a dementia diagnosis that makes daytime supervision necessary. Others want a reliable person for the hours around an adult day program, or for overnight sitting while a hospice team visits. If you are starting out, companionship and help with meals and errands are realistic first jobs; agency registration or a CNA certificate opens most of the rest.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Covina: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 5.1% of Covina's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That compares with 5.4% across Los Angeles County and 5.3% statewide, so Covina is slightly below both; its monthly rate ranged from 4.5% to 5.9% in a labor force averaging about 27,100. The pay floor depends on where your client lives. Within city limits, private work starts at the state's $16.90, since Berkeley's Labor Center records no Covina wage law. Some addresses with Covina ZIPs lie in unincorporated county territory, as the city's own transit page notes, and the county's Department of Consumer and Business Affairs sets $18.47 from July 1, 2026 for work at a business or nonprofit in unincorporated areas, so ask an agency based there which rate it pays. IHSS clients bring $19.64 an hour; the Los Angeles County IHSS guide covers enrollment.

Covina's ACS median household income is $98,671 and median gross rent $1,931. The regional nursing assistant median, $22.78, sits well above the aide median, so a CNA certificate is worth weighing if you want work at the hospital or nursing homes. Working for a Covina household as its personal attendant, you earn overtime on the tenth hour of any day and on every hour beyond 45 in a week.

How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
