Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Altadena

Altadena has no hospital of its own on the state's lists, and no nursing home or home health agency either. CDPH's facility file dated October 16, 2026 shows just two licensed health facilities with an Altadena address, both six-bed congregate living health facilities run under the Pinnacle Health name, on Santa Anita Avenue and on Colman Street. That leaves private homes and licensed residences as the main places to look for care work here. If you want an agency job, CDSS's facility search lists one licensed home care organization at an Altadena address, Minoru Home Care, Inc., which had its last state visit on September 25, 2025.

Licensed residences are the other main setting. CDSS's current facility layer, last edited October 19, 2026, lists seven licensed elder care homes (state term: residential care facilities for the elderly) in 91001, with room for 360 residents. Montecedro, a continuing care retirement community on El Molino Avenue, is licensed for 300 of them; North Lake Villas on N. Lake Avenue is licensed for 30, and five homes take six residents each. The same layer shows ten adult residential facilities, which serve adults with disabilities (140 places in total), and one adult day program, ICON-ADP on Lincoln Avenue, licensed for 120. Your profile should say whether you will take care-home shifts or only private work.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Altadena: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 4.7% of Altadena's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. EDD derives figures for census-designated places like Altadena from county totals, so it is a rough estimate. It is lower than the county's 5.4% and the state's 5.3% for that period, among roughly 21,600 people in the labor force. For an IHSS client living in Altadena, the county's provider wage is $19.64 an hour; read the Los Angeles County IHSS guide for the enrollment steps.

Because Altadena is unincorporated, the county's own minimum wage is the one to check. The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs says that from July 1, 2026 it is $18.47 an hour "for everyone who works two hours or more per week at a business or nonprofit in unincorporated Los Angeles County", and that where you live or where the employer is based does not change it. That plainly takes in care homes and nonprofits operating in Altadena. For an agency that sends you into a home here, or a family that hires you directly, the page does not spell it out, so ask DCBA on (800) 593-8222 before you assume either way. California's $16.90 is the floor for everyone else, and a personal attendant employed by a family is due overtime pay past the ninth hour of a workday and past the 45th hour of a workweek.

How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Altadena

No Altadena rules exist on top of the state's, since there is no city government to write any. Non-medical care for a family that pays you directly needs no license. A home care organization such as the one licensed here can only send you to clients after the state adds you to its Home Care Aide Registry. Nursing assistant posts in a nursing home require CDPH certification as a CNA. IHSS providers enroll with the county's DPSS, attend its orientation and are fingerprinted. Anyone paid to look after an elder or dependent adult must report suspected abuse; state law makes you a mandated reporter. Each process is set out in the requirements guide; the Los Angeles County page has the county offices.

The area

Altadena in numbers, and since the fire

The Census Bureau's survey for 2020–2024, collected before the Eaton Fire, counted 41,705 residents (margin of error ±2,203), of whom 9,186 (22.0%) were 65 or older and 1,291 were 85 or older; the median resident was 46.4 years old. Of 15,092 households, 41.1% had someone 65 or older, and 1,766 were older adults living alone. Among residents 65 and up, 29.0% reported a disability. Owners occupied 76.9% of homes, the median household income was $128,720, and 21.3% of residents aged five and up spoke Spanish at home. Those numbers describe Altadena as it was then, not who lives here now.

CAL FIRE's incident page, last updated August 6, 2026, records that the Eaton Fire started on January 7, 2025 near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, burned 14,021 acres and was fully contained on January 31, 2025. Across its footprint it destroyed 9,419 structures and damaged 1,076, and 19 civilians died. The Altadena Senior Center on E. Mariposa Street was lost, and in May 2025 the county reopened Loma Alta Park with a satellite senior center. Nearby pages: Pasadena, Glendale, Arcadia and Alhambra.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Altadena: frequently asked questions

Is Altadena's minimum wage the county's or the state's?

At a business or nonprofit in Altadena, the county rate applies: DCBA set it at $18.47 from July 1, 2026 for people who put in at least two hours a week. Its page does not address families who employ a caregiver directly; for those jobs, ask DCBA, and never accept less than the state's $16.90.

Are there agencies in Altadena that hire caregivers?

Few. State data show one licensed home care organization at an Altadena address and no home health agency or hospice. Most local employers are licensed care homes: seven for older adults, ten for adults with disabilities, plus an adult day program on Lincoln Avenue.

Is the Altadena Senior Center open?

Its building on E. Mariposa Street was destroyed in the Eaton Fire, the county reported in January 2025. Programs now run from the satellite center inside Loma Alta Park at 3330 N. Lincoln Avenue; call (626) 798-0505 to check the current schedule.

Are the census figures for Altadena still accurate?

They predate the fire. The ACS 2020–2024 estimates were gathered over those five years, so the population, age and income figures on this page describe Altadena before January 2025, not after it.

How much does IHSS pay for an Altadena client?

Los Angeles County's provider wage of $19.64 an hour since the start of 2026, paid for every hour the county approves. The client picks and directs the provider; relatives qualify.

Can my client use Dial-A-Ride from Altadena?

Yes, provided they are at least 60 or hold an Access membership or disabled TAP card. Pasadena runs the service and lists Altadena in its service area; a ride costs 75 cents each way.

How do families in Altadena find me?
