Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Torrance

Torrance has 143,363 residents (January 1, 2026) and an aging population: in the 2020 census 18.6% were 65 or over and the median age was 43.0, with one household in nine made up of a single person aged 65 or older. That last figure describes much of the private work here: someone living alone in the family home, with a son or daughter elsewhere in the South Bay arranging help. Families like these list their Torrance ZIP code when they post, and fresh South Bay requests appear in the list above.

Write your profile for that reader. Say whether you drive, which neighboring South Bay cities you will also cover, and what hours you can actually keep. Residents who identified as Asian made up 35.7% of the city in the 2020 census, so list Japanese, Korean, Tagalog or any other language you speak; families caring for a parent who has gone back to a first language look for it specifically.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Torrance: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Torrance pay is set inside the large Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim labor market, where the employed aide median was $16.50 in May 2025 and the mean $17.25. IHSS providers anywhere in Los Angeles County, Torrance included, earn $19.64 an hour from January 2026. Torrance is not among the cities in the UC Berkeley Labor Center's inventory of local minimum-wage ordinances, so the state's $16.90 is the floor here; caregivers who also take shifts inside the City of Los Angeles are owed at least $18.42 there from July 1, 2026. Private families agree rates one by one, and a caregiver with a car, dementia experience or a second language usually asks for more than the median.

How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Torrance

For a Torrance family hiring you directly for non-medical help, California requires no license; signing up for the Home Care Aide Registry anyway, for a $35 fee and fingerprints, gives a cautious South Bay family something official to check. If you work through a licensed home care agency, registry listing is mandatory. For IHSS, the client chooses and directs you, the county pays you, and PASC, the IHSS public authority for Los Angeles County, answers provider questions on (877) 565-4477. Nursing tasks and skilled nursing facility jobs require a CDPH nurse assistant certificate. You must report suspected elder abuse; in Torrance that means the county line, (877) 477-3646. Read the requirements guide and the profile guide.

The area

Torrance in numbers

The 2020 census counted 147,067 people in Torrance; the Department of Finance estimate for January 1, 2026 is 143,363, so the city has been shrinking slightly while its residents age. 54.1% of occupied homes were owner-occupied in 2020 and 19.1% of residents were Hispanic or Latino. The corporate history explains part of the population: Toyota moved its U.S. operations to Torrance in 1982 and many Japanese companies followed, and American Honda is headquartered in the city. Torrance Memorial Medical Center on Lomita Boulevard, whose Lundquist Tower opened in 2015 and which runs home health and hospice services, is the main local source of discharge-related requests.

The city itself offers older residents three senior centers (Bartlett on Cravens Avenue, the Herma Tillim Center and Walteria Park) for adults 50 and over, plus Dial-A-Lift and Senior Ride through Torrance Community Transit. Neighboring markets with their own pages: Long Beach, Los Angeles and Los Angeles County.
