Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Lakewood
Lakewood was incorporated in April 1954, and the city says 85% of its housing units are detached single-family homes. The Department of Finance counted 80,585 residents on January 1, 2026, and ACS 2020–2024 finds 9,050 of the city's 26,230 households, 34.5%, with a member aged 65 or older; 71.4% of Lakewood homes are owner-occupied. The typical request is from an adult child who wants a parent to stay in the family house: help with showers and dressing, someone in the house during the day, meals, laundry, and rides to the doctor or the store. Older people living alone are a large group too. The ACS counts 1,698 women and 659 men aged 65 or older who live by themselves in Lakewood.
Jobs posted with Lakewood's ZIP codes, 90712, 90713 and 90715, show above as families publish them. English is the only home language for 62.6% of Lakewood residents aged five and up, so experience and references usually carry more weight than language. Still, 22.8% speak Spanish and 11.5% an Asian or Pacific Islander language, and 50.2% of Lakewood immigrants come from Asia, so Tagalog, Korean, Vietnamese or Spanish belongs in your profile if you speak it. Say whether you drive. Some older clients no longer do, and the city's DASH van is only for residents without their own transportation.

Caregiver pay in Lakewood: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median ($17.25 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 385,530 jobs; concentration 2.22× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Lakewood has not passed a local minimum wage. The UC Berkeley Labor Center inventory of 2026 California local rates, checked October 15, has no Lakewood listing, so the $16.90 state minimum is the lowest legal rate for private caregiving in Lakewood. The Los Angeles County ordinance for unincorporated territory does not cover Lakewood, which is an incorporated city. The metro aide median of $16.50 (BLS, May 2025) mixes agency and private work across two big counties. Median household income in Lakewood is $119,177 (ACS 2020–2024), and a family hiring privately is paying for experience and reliability, so price yourself on what you can do rather than on that median. IHSS providers serving Lakewood recipients earn the county rate of $19.64. When a Lakewood family books a long day, domestic worker overtime rules start after nine hours, or after 45 in the week.
How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Lakewood
California does not license private non-medical caregivers, so a Lakewood family can hire you with no certificate at all. Home care organizations must place only registered aides; for an independent caregiver, the CDSS Home Care Aide registration is optional, costs $35 for two years and requires Live Scan fingerprints, which gives families something they can check. Nurse assistant certification from CDPH is required for nursing-home work and for clinical tasks, and it is also the entry requirement for the Long Beach City College vocational nursing program. IHSS work for a Lakewood recipient means enrolling with Los Angeles County DPSS; PASC keeps the provider registry. California law makes paid caregivers mandated reporters (WIC 15630), and suspected abuse of an older or dependent client in Lakewood is reported to county APS, (877) 477-3646. Our state requirements page has the detail, and Los Angeles County IHSS, step by step covers enrollment.

UCI Health-Lakewood at 3700 South Street is the city's general acute care hospital, which HCAI's profile shows holding a license for 172 beds and running a basic emergency service. The CDPH facility listing of September 16, 2026 shows no skilled nursing facility with a Lakewood address, but four hospices and one home health agency, so much of the post-hospital and end-of-life care here happens at home. Caregiver jobs in Lakewood: frequently asked questions
Is the minimum wage higher in Lakewood than elsewhere in California?
No. Lakewood has no ordinance of its own, so caregivers there are covered by the $16.90 state rate.
Does Lakewood have nursing homes that hire aides?
Not within the city by the state facility list; Lakewood work is mostly in private homes, alongside hospice and home health visits.
What do I need to apply to the LBCC vocational nursing program?
A CNA license is among the documents you upload, along with a high school diploma and transcripts from every college you attended. The application opens online November 9 to 12, 2026.
Do Lakewood families expect a second language?
Not usually: most residents speak only English at home. Spanish and Asian languages are still useful with some clients, so list them.
What does IHSS pay for a client in Lakewood?
$19.64 an hour, the Los Angeles County IHSS provider wage since January 1, 2026.
Will clients expect me to drive them?
Often. Lakewood DASH only serves residents 60 and older, or disabled, who lack their own transportation, and rides must be reserved, so a caregiver with a car is a real help.
