Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Alhambra
The Department of Finance put Alhambra at 82,544 residents on January 1, 2026. The age profile leans older: ACS 2020–2024 counts 15,358 people aged 65 and up, 19.0% of the city, and a median age of 41.5. Of the city's 30,425 households, 10,569 count a member that old, and 2,622 are older people who live by themselves. Private caregiver requests here tend to come from those two groups: a parent at home with working adult children, or someone on their own who needs a few hours of help. Postings that carry an Alhambra ZIP (91801 or 91803) appear above as families publish them.
In Alhambra, language decides many hires. An Asian or Pacific Island tongue is what 42.7% of residents aged five and up speak at home; for 23.0% it is Spanish; and 20,653 Alhambra residents rate their own English below very well. Some 45.0% were born outside the country, a majority of them in Asia. If you can work in Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese or Spanish, open your profile with it and name the dialect. Renters hold 58.9% of homes, and 7.4% of households have no car, so a client may rely on you for errands.

Caregiver pay in Alhambra: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim, CA metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median ($17.25 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 385,530 jobs; concentration 2.22× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Alhambra never passed a local wage law, and the Labor Center's inventory at UC Berkeley leaves it out, so caregiving inside city limits falls under the $16.90 state floor. The $16.50 aide median for the metro (May 2025) covers two very large counties; someone able to hold a conversation with an older client in her first language is offering something an Alhambra family may struggle to find, and can price that in. IHSS pays $19.64 an hour throughout Los Angeles County.
How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Alhambra
The state rules apply in Alhambra as they do anywhere in California. No license is needed when a private household pays you for non-medical help. Independents may choose to list on the Home Care Aide Registry, which lets a family look you up, while a licensed home care agency has to register you before it sends you to a client. If an Alhambra client receives IHSS, they pick and supervise their own provider and the county pays; enrollment, orientation and the Homecare Registry run through PASC on 877-565-4477. Nursing tasks and facility jobs need CDPH certification as a nurse assistant. Paid caregivers are legally obliged to pass on suspected abuse of Alhambra elders or dependent adults to county APS at (877) 477-3646. See our California rules page for detail and the Los Angeles County IHSS walkthrough for enrollment.
