Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Lawndale

Care employers in Lawndale are few and small, so most caregiving work here happens in private homes. In CDPH's October 16, 2026 facility data there is a single skilled nursing facility, Lawndale Healthcare & Wellness Centre at 15100 Prairie Avenue with 59 licensed beds, and one home health agency, AgapeHeart Home Health Services on Hawthorne Boulevard. Community Care Licensing's May 2025 records add two elder care homes with nine places between them, Americare Assisted Living on Roselle Avenue among them, and eleven adult residential homes for younger adults with disabilities, each with four to six beds.

Think about language before anything else in your profile. In ACS 2020–2024, 65.1% of Lawndale residents are Hispanic or Latino, 56.2% of those aged five and up use Spanish at home, and for 23.5% Spanish is the home language and English is rated below "very well." Put your languages in the first line of your profile and say whether you could handle a call to a doctor's office in either one. Just 10.9% of Lawndale is 65 or older, so expect some requests to come from adult sons and daughters arranging a few days a week of help for one parent. New Lawndale requests are added above as families publish them.

Expect posts asking for help getting a parent dressed and to the weekday senior lunch at the Harold E. Hofmann Community Center, short stretches of daily care after a hospital or nursing home stay, company and light housekeeping while the family works, and someone to book and ride along on the city's free senior trips. If you have no certificate yet, start with companionship, meals and errands; a CNA or home health aide certificate opens the nursing home and the home health agency.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Lawndale: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 4.7% of Lawndale's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. The county averaged 5.4% and the state 5.3% over that period; the monthly figure moved between 4.2% and 5.4%, and the city's labor force averaged about 16,900 people. Hourly pay is the figure to plan around. A Lawndale client approved for IHSS can pay you $19.64 for each authorized hour, and provider enrollment is explained step by step in our Los Angeles County IHSS guide.

Lawndale does not appear in UC Berkeley's Labor Center list of local wage ordinances (version of September 30, 2026), so $16.90 is the lowest legal hourly rate when a household inside the city employs you. A personal attendant is also owed one and a half times the regular rate beyond nine hours in one day or beyond 45 in one week. Lawndale's ACS median household income is $85,441, renters make up 63.0% of households, and half of renting households pay more than $1,938 a month.

How to enroll as a provider in Los Angeles County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Los Angeles County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Lawndale

The city adds no caregiver license of its own. A household that employs you itself for non-medical help does not need you to hold a state license either. CDSS's May 2025 file shows no licensed home care organization at a Lawndale address; any agency that sends you to a Lawndale client must first get you onto the Home Care Aide Registry (a $35 fee plus Live Scan prints). The Prairie Avenue nursing home hires certified nursing assistants, and the home health agency sends aides on home visits. To be paid through IHSS you sign up with DPSS, sit an in-person orientation, give fingerprints and pass a criminal background check. State law makes you a mandated reporter if you suspect an older client is being abused. More on each route is in the caregiver requirements guide.

Lawndale in numbers

On January 1, 2026 the Department of Finance counted 31,130 Lawndale residents. The 2020–2024 American Community Survey gives a median age of 36.9, with 3,348 residents (10.9%) are 65 or older and 241 are 85 or older.
