Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Yreka

The City of Yreka places itself just south of the Oregon border and dates its founding to an 1851 gold discovery in what is now Discovery Park; the city was formed in 1857 and calls itself a hub for tourism, business and government. The Department of Finance counted 7,709 residents at the start of 2026. For anyone doing care work, the point is that Fairchild Medical Center, the college's nursing programs and the county's IHSS office are all in town.

Yreka is also older than the state as a whole. ACS 2020–2024 counts 1,930 residents aged 65 and over, 24.7% of the city against 15.7% for California, and 201 aged 85 and over. Among residents 65 and older, women outnumber men three to two (1,151 to 779), 35.9% report a disability, and 784 live alone, which works out to 22.6% of all Yreka households. Older people living on their own are often the ones who want a few hours of help a day. A good Yreka profile says which parts of town and which nearby communities you cover, whether you can do personal care as well as housework, and whether you will drive a client to Fairchild for appointments.

Types of caregiver jobs in Yreka

Yreka work falls into three groups. Private families and IHSS clients need help at home: bathing, meals, housekeeping and rides. Madrone Hospice recruits volunteers and nurses for its home hospice patients and its six-bed Madrone House. And Fairchild Medical Center, which calls itself Siskiyou County's largest private employer, hires across its hospital and clinics; its Senior Life Solutions program for older adults lists a CNA on the care team.

Caregiver pay in Yreka: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Siskiyou County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 7.3% of Yreka's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, a little below Siskiyou County's 7.6% and above California's 5.3%. The monthly rate ranged from 6.2% to 9.1%. Yreka households have a $43,982 median income in ACS 2020–2024, against $59,095 for the county. Against that background, an ongoing IHSS provider job in Siskiyou County is steady income, though the county rate, $16.90 from September 1, 2026, only matches the state minimum wage. UC Berkeley's inventory lists no Yreka ordinance, so $16.90 is also the floor for private work. The step up is clinical: nursing assistants across the ten-county BLS area are paid a $22.66 median, and Madrone's own careers page advertises a per diem LVN post at $25.72 to $32.08 an hour.

How to enroll as a provider in Siskiyou County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Siskiyou County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Yreka

Yreka applies state rules as they stand. Private, non-medical work for a Yreka family requires no state license, and Registry listing is compulsory only for agency employees. IHSS hours are authorized by Siskiyou County Adult Services at 750 South Main Street, and the IHSS Public Authority meets new providers by appointment at 818 South Main Street; enrollment steps are summarized on the Siskiyou County page. Hospital and hospice aide roles usually require state CNA certification, and the college's Yreka campus offers the course. State law treats paid caregivers as mandated reporters of elder and dependent adult abuse. Read more in our California requirements guide.
