IHSS Siskiyou County: phone number, Yreka and Mt. Shasta offices, and the $16.90 wage

Adult Services, at 750 South Main Street in Yreka, handles In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) for Siskiyou County, and a separate IHSS Public Authority, with desks in Yreka and Mt. Shasta, handles provider enrollment and the caregiver registry. Read on for the IHSS Siskiyou County phone numbers, how an application moves from first call to approval, the three enrollment packets new providers fill in, what the job pays and where to get fingerprinted. Every item was confirmed on county and state websites on October 16, 2026.

What IHSS in Siskiyou County pays for, and who qualifies

On the county's IHSS page, the program is described as a way to keep someone with ongoing medical needs safe at home by sending a caregiver in, so that out-of-home care is not needed. It serves people over 65, people who are blind and people with a disability. Care almost always happens in the person's own home, which the county says can be a house, an apartment, a hotel or a relative's home.

Siskiyou County calls IHSS a Medi-Cal program paid for with federal, state and county money. Someone who gets Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or who meets all of the Medi-Cal eligibility rules, may qualify. Four more conditions come from the state's Department of Social Services (CDSS), and they apply in every county. Applicants have to be California residents with a Medi-Cal eligibility determination, must hand in a completed Health Care Certification, and the place you receive care has to be your own home or one you picked, which rules out a hospital, a nursing facility or a licensed care home.

The county lists what an IHSS caregiver may be authorized to do:

  • personal care, such as dressing, bathing, feeding and toileting;
  • paramedical tasks, such as injections, wound care, or colostomy and catheter care, done under direction from a licensed medical professional;
  • house cleaning, cooking, shopping and laundry;
  • going with the person to and from medical appointments.

It is just as clear about what IHSS will not cover: moving furniture, paying bills or reading mail, pet care (service animals included), gardening, repairs, companionship, and sitting in the doctor's waiting room.

How to apply: the IHSS Siskiyou County phone number and office

Applications start with Siskiyou County Adult Services. Call (530) 841-4010, or go in person to 750 S. Main Street, Yreka, CA 96097. The Adult and Children Services contact page lists that address and number for both APS and IHSS, a fax of 530-841-4238, and weekday hours from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, with a lunch closure from noon to 1:00 pm. For help in Spanish, the same page gives 530-841-4200.

The county lays the process out in five stages:

  1. Intake questions. A social worker asks about the disability, the tasks you need help with, and your income and assets. The county says this takes about 20 minutes.
  2. Home visit. A social worker visits you at home and decides which services you need and the time allowed for each. The county considers your medical condition, your living arrangement and resources already available to you.
  3. Health Care Certification. You receive a form for your doctor to fill in confirming the need for IHSS. Nothing can be authorized until it is done. CDSS names this form the SOC 873; the application itself is the SOC 295.
  4. Notice of Action. The county mails a Notice of Action (NOA) saying whether you are approved, which services are covered, how much time goes to each, and the monthly total.
  5. Hiring. Once you are eligible you can hire one or more people. That can be a friend or relative; the Public Authority registry can also refer someone.

Under CDSS rules, that makes you the employer: you hire the provider, train and supervise them, and dismiss them if it comes to that. If you have never hired anyone before, the interview questions and sample agreement in our caregiver hiring guide for families are a starting point.

IHSS pay in Siskiyou County: $16.90, the same as the state minimum

Siskiyou County's row in the state's county-by-county wage workbook from CDSS (the "IP Effective 10-1-2026" tab, as downloaded on October 16, 2026) reads $16.90 an hour from September 1, 2026. That matches California's minimum wage for 2026, according to the Department of Industrial Relations. Of the 58 counties on the sheet, Siskiyou is the only one paying IHSS providers the bare state minimum; every other county is higher.

County or benchmarkStart dateHourly
Del Norte IHSSSept. 2026$19.50
Shasta IHSSJan. 2026$18.50
Humboldt IHSSJan. 2026$18.40
Modoc IHSSJan. 2026$17.75
Siskiyou IHSSSept. 2026$16.90
California minimum wage, all employersJan. 2026$16.90

The CDSS collective bargaining workbook explains part of the picture. Its Siskiyou row shows no last negotiated wage increase, "No MOU" under the agreement column, and a status of "Currently Negotiating". The Public Authority page says the Public Authority is the providers' employer of record for bargaining over wages and benefits. Neither source says which union, if any, represents Siskiyou providers; the Public Authority can tell you.

The rate follows the county that holds the recipient's case, not the provider's home address. A caregiver living in Siskiyou County whose client's case sits in Shasta County is paid Shasta's $18.50. CDSS adds that the state, not the county, issues the pay checks, deducting disability insurance and Social Security from eligible providers' pay.

About 7.6% of Siskiyou County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% for California. The figure was about 11.4% in Weed and 7.3% in Yreka. No Siskiyou County city is named in the local wage ordinance inventory published by the Labor Center at UC Berkeley (last revised September 30, 2026), so private care jobs there also start at the state $16.90. Rates for every other county are listed in IHSS provider pay by county.

The Siskiyou County IHSS Public Authority and its registry

The Public Authority describes itself as working closely with county IHSS while being a separate body. Its stated mission is to give consumers and providers a voice in IHSS and to support good working relationships between them. It keeps a provider registry, which it defines as a computerized database of qualified, screened IHSS providers, and it helps recipients find a provider.

It has two offices, both open by appointment only:

  • Mt. Shasta: 1107 Ream Avenue, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067
  • Yreka: 818 S. Main St., Yreka, CA 96097

The desk line is 530-841-2711, the number the county IHSS page also gives for the registry coordinator. The administrator's cell, 530-598-6877, is the contact the IHSS page offers to anyone interested in becoming a provider. Spanish speakers can call 530-841-2700.

Getting on the registry (Packet C). Fill in the registry application and return it to either Public Authority office. The administrator reviews it, contacts your references and then calls you in for an interview. If you are approved, your name and contact details go to IHSS recipients who need a caregiver. The packet says plainly that a registry place does not guarantee work.

The Public Authority page also links CDSS fact sheets for recipients on finding, interviewing, supervising and communicating with a provider, a sample job agreement, and the state's IHSS Career Pathways training program.

How to become an IHSS provider in Siskiyou County: Packets A and B

New providers enroll through the Public Authority using two packets posted on its page. CDSS leaves orientations and enrollment paperwork to counties and Public Authorities rather than handling them itself.

Packet A (instructions dated January 2025) holds the SOC 426 provider enrollment form, the SOC 426C (IHSS code sections), the SOC 847 (information for prospective providers) and a DOJ Request for Live Scan Service. The steps must be done in this order:

  1. Read and complete every page. Skip a step and the packet comes back to you.
  2. Book an appointment at a Live Scan site and get your fingerprints taken. You pay the Live Scan fees.
  3. Return all the forms, including the processed Live Scan request, in person or by mail to the Public Authority at 1107 Ream Ave., Mt. Shasta, CA 96067, or 818 S. Main St., Yreka, CA 96097.
  4. Wait for the Department of Justice result. When the Public Authority has it, an orientation invitation is emailed to you, so put your email address on the SOC 426.
  5. Contact the Public Authority to register for an orientation date, then attend. Have a current photo ID with you, and your actual Social Security card rather than a copy; both must show the same name. Arrive more than 10 minutes late and you will be turned away and have to rebook.

CDSS also lists the SOC 846 provider enrollment agreement as part of enrolling in every county; ask the Public Authority when you sign it.

Packet B (instructions dated March 2023) links you to a particular recipient. It holds the SOC 426A recipient designation of provider, the SOC 2256 workweek form and a W-4. No timesheets can be generated until it is returned and processed, and a provider with several clients completes the whole packet, W-4 included, for each one. Those 2023 instructions send the packet to the IHSS office (Adult Services) at 2060 Campus Dr., Yreka, while the county's current contact page puts IHSS at 750 South Main Street, so check the address with the Public Authority before you mail it. The SOC 2255, a workweek and travel time form, can be submitted in the Electronic Services Portal or requested from the Public Authority.

The statewide parts of enrollment are explained in our IHSS provider guide; family members caring for a relative will find the relative-specific rules in paid family caregiving in California.

Live Scan fingerprinting sites in Siskiyou County

The Attorney General's public Live Scan list shows three sites in the county. The rolling fee below is what the site charges for taking prints; the DOJ notes that state and FBI processing fees are on top, and providers can add their own charges.

LocationStreet address, phoneDays and timesOperator fee
Siskiyou Co. Sheriff's Dept.315 South Oregon Street, Yreka; (530) 842-8162Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, appointment only$23.00

Take a valid photo ID; the DOJ says operators will not accept an expired card. Call ahead, because the list itself warns that hours and fees change.

Timesheets, payroll questions and sick leave

  • Online timesheets. Providers enter hours in the state Electronic Services Portal at www.etimesheets.ihss.ca.gov, and the recipient then approves or rejects each one. Payment history, direct deposit sign-up and sick leave claims are handled in the portal too. The Siskiyou Public Authority page links CDSS videos on registering, entering time and connecting a provider to a case.
  • Who to call. Packet A sends payroll questions to the IHSS Help Desk at 866.376.7066 (staffed weekdays, 8 am until 5 pm, per CDSS) or to County IHSS Payroll Processing at 530.841.4200.
  • Paid sick leave. The 40-hour allowance for 2026/27 opens on July 1, 2026. Someone just starting out has to log 100 hours of authorized IHSS work first. Use the portal or a SOC 2302 to claim it; hours left over on June 30 disappear.

Neither the county nor the Public Authority pages we read mention health or dental coverage for Siskiyou IHSS providers, and the bargaining workbook shows no agreement in place. Ask the Public Authority what, if anything, is offered.

Adult Protective Services and other help for older adults

Siskiyou County APS keeps its abuse hotline staffed day and night on (530) 842-7009. It investigates abuse and neglect of elders (60 and over) and dependent adults (18 through 59 with physical or mental limitations). You can also complete the state SOC 341 report form and fax it to 1-530-841-4238. APS does not investigate abuse inside long-term care facilities; for those, the county directs callers to the Long-Term Care Ombudsman crisis line, 1 (800) 231-4024.

The county reminds caregivers that anyone with full or part-time care or custody of an elder or dependent adult, paid or unpaid, is a mandated reporter who must report suspected abuse at once. That includes IHSS providers. From anywhere in California, the CDSS APS line, 1-833-401-0832, routes your call by ZIP code.

IHSS across Yreka, Weed and the rest of Siskiyou County

Every county contact for IHSS points to the same Adult Services number, and the Public Authority covers the whole county from its two offices. Families in Weed, Yreka or anywhere else in Siskiyou County begin with the same call to (530) 841-4010. If the approved hours do not stretch to evenings, weekends or the weeks after a hospital stay, the family pays for the extra time privately, on terms it agrees with the caregiver.

On CaregiverConnect, posting a job is free; caregivers apply and the family hires directly as the employer. Caregivers pay no commission. CaregiverConnect does not screen anyone's background; caregivers who have a check can add the proof to their profiles. Some extras are on optional paid plans, and for budgeting there is our California in-home care cost guide. New listings appear on these pages as families post them. If the case belongs to another county, read IHSS in Shasta County, IHSS in Del Norte County or IHSS in Modoc County.
