How to find an in-home caregiver in Earlimart

Earlimart is an unincorporated community, so there is no city senior office to call; the help that exists comes from Tulare County, the Kings/Tulare Area Agency on Aging and a few places on East Washington Avenue. Start the posting with language. In the ACS 2020–2024 estimates, 82.1% of residents speak Spanish at home and 59.6% speak English less than "very well"; about 9% of the town is Filipino, and 7.1% of residents speak an Asian or Pacific Island language at home. If your father prefers Tagalog or Ilocano, say so plainly, because that narrows the field to the right people.

Next, describe the household. Earlimart homes are large (4.04 people on average) and 26.7% include someone 65 or older, so many postings here are for daytime cover while the working adults are out rather than for a parent living alone. Mention whether the caregiver must drive: the Adventist Health hospital in Delano is 10.0 road miles away, Adventist Health Tulare 24.0 (OSRM routing). People who answer will typically come from Earlimart itself, Pixley, Delano or Tulare. Caregiver profiles near Earlimart are added here as people sign up, so post early and look again in a few days.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Earlimart

When you hire directly, nobody vets the caregiver for you, so you check credentials yourself. California's Home Care Aide Registry can be searched by name; an aide employed by an agency must appear there, an independent may or may not. A caregiver who already works for IHSS in Tulare County has been through the county's enrollment, including a Department of Justice fingerprint check. A certified nursing assistant holds a CDPH certificate you can confirm. Beyond paperwork, interview in the language your parent uses, ask for two references from families you can phone, and book one paid trial shift so your parent can meet the caregiver before anything is fixed. Nobody at CaregiverConnect screens applicants or checks backgrounds; with the caregiver's written consent you can order a consumer background check yourself.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • If my mother needs the emergency room at night, would you drive her to Adventist Health in Delano, and is your car reliable?
  • Can you take her to her appointment at the United Health Centers clinic on Washington Avenue and pick up her medicines at its pharmacy?
  • Do you speak Spanish all day comfortably? Do you speak Tagalog or Ilocano?
  • Our house has six people in it; how would you keep her routine quiet while the children are home from school?
  • Tell me about a client you helped after a fall or with diabetes; what did a normal day look like?
  • Are you an IHSS provider in Tulare County already, or would you enroll?
  • Would you walk her to the senior center lunch on weekdays?
  • How much per hour, and is a 5 a.m. start priced differently?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Earlimart: hourly rates and schedules

Earlimart postings tend to start early, when working relatives leave for farm jobs (half of employed residents work in agriculture), and to cover a few hours around midday when the senior center lunch runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Weekend respite and the first nights after a hospital discharge are the other common requests.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

For most Earlimart families IHSS is the first thing to check. Three in four residents (74.3%) have public health coverage and a third of residents 65 and older (33.8%) live below the poverty line, so many older people here qualify for Medi-Cal. If they do, Tulare County assesses how many hours of help are needed and pays the provider you choose, often a son, daughter or niece, $17.50 an hour. Families who pay privately usually land between the $16.90 state minimum wage, which applies in unincorporated Tulare County, and the $17.50 IHSS rate for companionship; nights, personal care and long drives cost extra. An agency would charge far more, around the $40 California median.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Safety

Hiring safely in Earlimart

Write down the hours, tasks, hourly rate, overtime and how much notice either side gives, in Spanish as well as English if that helps everyone. Keep a weekly timesheet, keep cards and cash out of reach, and give the caregiver only what the job needs. California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights requires overtime pay for a personal attendant beyond 9 hours in a day or 45 hours in a week. Report suspected neglect or financial abuse to Tulare County Adult Protective Services at (877) 657-3092, or the statewide line, 1-833-401-0832. The hiring guide explains the paperwork.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Earlimart: frequently asked questions

How do I find a caregiver in Earlimart?

Post the need free, in Spanish or English, and say which hours and whether driving is needed. Caregivers within reach usually live in Earlimart, Pixley, Delano or Tulare; the Tulare County page covers the wider county.

Can my daughter be paid by IHSS to care for me in Earlimart?

Yes, if you have Medi-Cal and Tulare County approves hours after its assessment. Your daughter enrolls as your provider at the Visalia office and is paid $17.50 an hour for the approved hours.

My father lives in Earlimart but the hospital is in Delano. Which county handles his IHSS?

Tulare County, because IHSS follows where he lives. The hospital being in Kern County does not change that.

Is there anywhere in Earlimart my mother can go during the day?

The Earlimart Senior Center serves lunch at noon on weekdays. For a day program with supervision, the Area Agency on Aging works with Valley Adult Day Services, which is based in Porterville.

What does CaregiverConnect cost an Earlimart family?

Posting and reviewing applicants are free. Family Premium is $24.99 a month and can be canceled whenever you like; caregivers pay no commission, so the rate you agree is what they earn.
