How to find an in-home caregiver in Richgrove
No clinic, care home or senior meal site in Richgrove appears on the state facility files or the Area Agency on Aging's list, so home care is how most families here look after a parent. The ACS 2020–2024 estimate counts 196 residents aged 65 and over, 80 of them 75 or older, living in 144 of the community's 491 households. Most older people share a home with family, which averages close to four people. One group stands out: the survey counts 23 older men who live by themselves and no older women, so a widower or bachelor uncle who needs cooked meals, clean clothes and someone checking on him is a common reason to post.
Spell out the job: the tasks, the days and times, the rate, and whether the caregiver has to drive. Driving matters more here than in most towns, because the doctors and the hospital your relative uses are likely to be in Delano, a drive of roughly 9.5 miles from the Road 210 area, or up in Earlimart. Eight in ten Richgrove residents over five (80.1%) speak Spanish at home, so mention it if your relative needs a Spanish speaker. Replies could come from Richgrove itself or from neighboring towns on either side of the county line.

Evaluating caregivers in Richgrove
Three kinds of paperwork can back up what a Richgrove caregiver tells you. A Tulare County IHSS provider has been fingerprinted through the state and has taken the county's provider orientation. An aide placed by a licensed home care agency is listed by name in the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry. A certified nursing assistant, the credential the Delano nursing homes hire for, appears in CDPH's online verification. Plenty of good Richgrove caregivers hold none of the three; judge them the way you would anyone: phone their references yourself, ask what they would do if your father fell while you were at work, and book one paid trial visit while a relative is in the house. We at CaregiverConnect neither check records nor verify identities, so a check, if you want one, is arranged by your family with the caregiver's written consent.
Questions families here ask at interview
- ¿Le parece bien cuidar a mi papá y hablar con él en español durante el día?
- His doctor is in Delano; will you use your own car for those trips, and how should we cover the gas?
- If she has to go to Adventist Health Delano in a hurry, would you call 911 or take her yourself, and how would you decide?
- He lives alone and forgets to eat; could you cook enough at each visit to see him through until the next one?
- We are applying to Tulare County for IHSS. If hours are approved, will you enroll as his provider?
- Would you go with her to the senior lunch in Earlimart on the RIDE van, or drive her to Delano?
- How would you let us know what happened during each visit, by text, a notebook or a call?
What in-home care costs in Richgrove: hourly rates and schedules
Daily check-ins. An hour or two each day for an older man living alone: a meal, pills and a tidy kitchen. Working-day cover. Richgrove workers average a 24.9-minute commute (ACS 2020–2024), so some families want help from early morning until mid-afternoon. Appointment days. A half day for a Delano or Earlimart clinic visit, including the wait. Weekend respite. A weekend shift that lets the relative who does most of the caring take a day off.

| Employed aides, Visalia metro (Tulare County) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Tulare County | $17.50 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Check IHSS before you budget. In ACS 2020–2024, 75.9% of Richgrove residents rely on public health coverage, and the typical household income is $44,950. When your relative qualifies for Medi-Cal and still lives at home, Tulare County can assess them and authorize hours, which it pays at $17.50 each to the provider you name, a family member included. That is Tulare's rate even when the caregiver lives in Delano; Kern County's rate applies only to clients who live in Kern. Paying privately makes your household the employer: the state minimum of $16.90 applies, since the UC Berkeley Labor Center records no wage ordinance for unincorporated Tulare County, and once a personal attendant works more than nine hours on a given day, or 45 in the week, the extra hours are paid at time-and-a-half. For comparison, an agency in California charged a median $40.00 an hour for non-medical help at home in CareScout's 2025 survey.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring safely in Richgrove
Write down what you agreed: duties, hours, the hourly rate and overtime, mileage for Delano trips, and notice on both sides. Have the caregiver log arrival and departure on a weekly time sheet that you both initial; spare medicine, cash and cards belong in a locked cupboard. In an emergency call 911. If you suspect that a Richgrove elder or dependent adult is being abused, neglected or financially exploited, phone California APS on 1-833-401-0832 and give ZIP 93261 at the prompt; that sends the report to Tulare County rather than Kern. Hiring a caregiver in Richgrove: frequently asked questions
Where is the nearest hospital to Richgrove?
Adventist Health Delano, a 97-bed acute care hospital on Garces Highway, about 9.5 road miles from Road 210. Sierra View Medical Center in Porterville is about 20 miles. Make sure the caregiver knows which one your relative's doctors use.
Is there a care home or nursing home in Richgrove?
No. None of the state's facility lists shows one at a Richgrove address. The nearest skilled nursing homes are in Delano: Delano District Skilled Nursing Facility (141 beds), Valley View Care Center (53 beds) and the unit at Adventist Health Delano. The licensing file also lists two four-bed elderly care homes in Delano.
Our caregiver lives in Delano. Is the IHSS pay Kern's or Tulare's?
Tulare's. IHSS follows the county where the person receiving care lives, so hours for a Richgrove resident are paid at Tulare County's $17.50, and the caregiver enrolls with Tulare County IHSS in Visalia.
Can Delano Dial-A-Ride pick up my mother in Richgrove?
The City of Delano describes its Dial-A-Ride area as the city plus surrounding unincorporated Kern County, which leaves Richgrove, a Tulare County community, outside it. RIDE Tulare County's Zone 4 vans are the public option from Richgrove, for trips to Earlimart or Tulare.
Where does a Richgrove senior go for a hot lunch with company?
Either Earlimart, whose AAA meal site puts lunch on the table at noon each weekday, or Delano, where the city's senior center serves lunch to people 60 and up. Both need a ride, which is often a caregiver's job.
What does CaregiverConnect charge a Richgrove family?
