How to find an in-home caregiver in Los Molinos
Los Molinos is a small unincorporated community, a census-designated place of roughly 1,600 people in Tehama County, and its older residents make up a larger share than in most of California: 22.1% are 65 or older in ACS 2020–2024. State records show a clinic and two small care homes in town but no hospital or nursing home, so for most families the practical help is a person who comes to the house. Someone answering your post may live in town or come from Red Bluff, Corning or the smaller places along the TRAX loop, such as Gerber and Tehama.
Be specific in the request. Give the nearest cross street or the side of Highway 99E the house is on, which mornings or evenings you need, whether driving is part of the work, and what you will pay per hour. Is Spanish your parent's first language? Mention it at the top. ACS finds Spanish spoken at home by 47.2% of Los Molinos residents aged five or more. Profiles closest to 96055 appear first in the list, and new caregivers are added as they join.

Evaluating caregivers in Los Molinos
Three credentials are worth asking about here. The first is IHSS: a person already paid by Tehama County IHSS went through the Public Authority's orientation and a Live Scan fingerprint check before the first timesheet. The second is a CNA certificate, issued by CDPH, which shows formal training in hands-on care. The third is the Home Care Aide Registry, which only agency staff must join; an independent caregiver you hire yourself may not be on it, and that is normal. Whatever the applicant holds, phone two former employers, talk with finalists at the Los Molinos house while your parent sits in, then pay for a single trial visit when a family member can stay. CaregiverConnect does not vet anyone or run background checks. If you want one, order it yourself after the applicant agrees in writing.
Questions families here ask at interview

- Would you be comfortable interpreting for my mother at the clinic in Spanish?
- Have you been enrolled as a Tehama County IHSS provider before, and would you sign up if her application is approved?
- What happens to her care on a day you are ill?

What in-home care costs in Los Molinos: hourly rates and schedules
Weekday mornings. A short visit for a wash, getting dressed, breakfast and the morning pills, the usual start for an older adult who lives alone. Appointment days. Longer shifts that include a drive or a TRAX ride to Red Bluff and the wait there. Evenings and weekends. Supper, a safe bedtime routine and company, so a working son or daughter gets a break. Meals on Wheels covers lunch for some homebound seniors, which can shorten the hours you need.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, North Valley-Northern Mountains nonmetro area (includes Tehama County) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Tehama County | $18.40 | CDSS; effective July 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Los Molinos has no local wage law (there is no city council to pass one, and UC Berkeley's inventory lists nothing in Tehama County), which makes California's $16.90 the legal floor. For comparison, in the ten-county BLS region that includes Tehama, the May 2025 aide median was $16.50, county IHSS providers are paid $18.40, and CareScout's 2025 survey found licensed agencies in California billing a $40 hourly median for non-medical help. A family that hires directly takes on the employer's role, so the overtime rules for personal attendants (a higher rate kicks in past nine hours daily or 45 weekly) become yours to follow. ACS estimates the median household income in Los Molinos at $35,000, with a very wide margin, so for many families IHSS is the place to start: the county describes it as a program for eligible Medi-Cal elderly and disabled people who need help to remain safely at home, and the application can be mailed to P.O. Box 1515, Red Bluff.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
