How to find an in-home caregiver in Mono County
The county's own figures explain why location comes first. Mono County is 108 miles long, Bridgeport is the county seat, and Mammoth Lakes is the one incorporated town, holding 7,035 of the 12,482 residents counted by the Department of Finance on January 1, 2026. A caregiver who lives in Mammoth may not take a job in Coleville, and the reverse is true too. Name the community in your post, note any driving the job involves, and mention if the home is off a plowed road.
ACS 2020–2024 counts 2,297 county residents aged 65 or over (17.5%), 247 aged 85 or over, and 421 households in which a person 65 or older lives alone. About one resident in five (19.0%) speaks Spanish at home, so it is worth saying in your post if you want a bilingual caregiver. Licensed options outside the home are thin: the state licensing file lists no assisted living home in the county, and CDPH lists no nursing home. Families who want a parent to stay at home therefore rely on relatives, IHSS providers and privately hired help.

Types of in-home care families in Mono County arrange
All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.
- Senior care at home: meals, reminders, housekeeping, errands, company.
- Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers.
- Companion care: conversation, walks, appointments, errands.
- Dementia care: routine-based support; ask for experience.
- Respite care: shifts so a family caregiver can rest or work.
- Overnight and live-in: night supervision or room-and-board arrangements.
- Post-surgery recovery: non-medical help after a hospital stay.
- Part-time and flexible: a few hours on set days is the usual start.
Evaluating caregivers in Mono County
Ask every applicant for proof. Any applicant claiming to be a Mono County IHSS provider went through the state's enrollment process, with Justice Department fingerprinting and an orientation, and Community Service Solutions, which runs the county's provider registry, can confirm how its own referrals were screened. Ask a CNA for the certificate number CDPH issued, then check it online. No licensed home care agency lists a Mono County address in the state file, so the Home Care Aide Registry will rarely apply; most people you interview will be independent. Call two references, ideally families in the same community, and book a paid trial shift before you commit to a schedule. Since CaregiverConnect itself screens nobody, that work stays with you.
Questions families here ask at interview
- After a big snowstorm, how would you reach our house from where you live?
- Are you on the IHSS provider registry run by Community Service Solutions?
- Can you drive my mother to Mammoth Hospital or to appointments in Bishop, and is your car insured for it?
- Would you book the ESTA dial-a-ride or the Tuesday Walker to Mammoth bus for my father and ride along?
- Could you work with my mother in Spanish, which she prefers?
- If my father fell and you were alone with him, what steps would you take?
- Can you help my mother get to the Antelope Valley Senior Center lunch in Walker?
What in-home care costs in Mono County: hourly rates and schedules
In town. In Mammoth Lakes or Bridgeport, families often post a morning visit for bathing, breakfast and medicines and a shorter evening call for supper. Outlying homes. In Benton, Topaz or June Lake, fewer and longer days usually work better than daily one-hour visits, because each trip takes time. Back from the hospital. Expect extra hours, possibly overnight, for the first week or two.

| Employed aides, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode nonmetro area (includes Mono County) | $16.52 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Mono County | $17.95 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Compare four figures before naming a private wage. The lowest lawful rate is $16.90, because UC Berkeley's inventory records no local ordinance in Mono County. Aides in the seven-county BLS area covering Mono earned a $16.52 median in May 2025. Mono County pays IHSS providers $17.95 an hour. CareScout's 2025 survey found agency care in California priced at a $40 hourly median, though the county has no licensed agency of its own. A direct hire puts you in the employer's seat, with the overtime and record-keeping duties that come with it.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

How do we apply for IHSS in Mono County?
Ask Social Services, (760) 924-1770, to mail an application, or collect one at the Mammoth Lakes, Bridgeport or Walker office. The county requires that the applicant be eligible for or already receive Medi-Cal and live in their own home or one they choose, not in a care facility.
Can I be my mother's or father's IHSS provider in Mono County?
Often. After the county approves your parent and your parent picks you as provider, you enroll through Community Service Solutions: the SOC 426 form, Live Scan fingerprints, orientation, then the SOC 846, with 90 days to finish everything. Mono County pays providers $17.95 an hour.
Is there assisted living in Mono County?
No. The state's May 25, 2025 licensing file has no elderly residential care facility at a Mono County address. CDPH's list shows no nursing home either; Mammoth Hospital is the one licensed hospital.
Who helps family caregivers who are worn out?
The Inland Caregiver Resource Center covers Mono County and can be reached toll-free on (800) 675-6694. The Eastern Sierra Area Agency on Aging, (760) 873-3305, also lists family caregiver services among its programs.
How do I report suspected elder abuse in Mono County?
Call the county's Adult Protective Services hotline, (800) 340-5411, which answers around the clock and accepts anonymous reports. APS serves elders (60 and up) and dependent adults between 18 and 59.
Does CaregiverConnect vet caregivers?
No. Nobody's history, licenses or references are investigated by us, so screening is yours to do. Posting costs nothing; messaging and hiring come with Family Premium, which is $24.99 per month.
