Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Mono County

The Department of Finance puts Mono County's population at 12,482 as of January 1, 2026, and 7,035 of those people live in Mammoth Lakes. The county's own description calls Mammoth Lakes its only incorporated town and puts the county seat in Bridgeport. It measures the county at 108 miles long, with 94% of its 3,030 square miles publicly owned. The same page names U.S. Highway 395 as the road running north to south through the county. On a map that long, a client's community matters more than the county name when you decide whether a job is within reach.

The services follow that layout. Health and Human Services keeps its main office on Tavern Road in Mammoth Lakes and smaller offices in Bridgeport and Walker. The only hospital in the state's facility file for the county is Mammoth Hospital. In the north, the Toiyabe Indian Health Project runs clinics in Bridgeport and at Camp Antelope in Coleville. Your profile should name every community you can get to all year and say whether you will drive clients to Mammoth or Bishop.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Mono County

Expect non-medical requests: meals, cleaning, laundry, shopping, bathing, dressing and rides to appointments, the tasks the county lists under IHSS. The state licensing files show no assisted living home, adult residential facility or licensed home care agency with a Mono County address, and CDPH lists no nursing home there, so private and IHSS work in clients' own homes is the main path for an aide. Facility jobs are mostly at Mammoth Hospital; see the Mammoth Lakes page.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Mono County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mono and six other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Home health and personal care aides, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mono and six other counties)$16.52 median ($17.48 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 2,220 jobs; concentration 1.27× national
IHSS provider wage, Mono County$17.95CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mono and six other counties)$22.79 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS does not survey Mono County by itself. It counts the county in a nonmetro area that also takes in Tuolumne, Inyo, Mariposa, Calaveras, Amador and Alpine. That area's 2,220 aides (SOC 31-1120) were paid a median of $16.52 an hour in May 2025, with a mean of $17.48, while its nursing assistants had a median of $22.79. The county's IHSS wage, $17.95 since January 1, 2026, sits $1.05 above the state minimum. UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory lists neither the county nor Mammoth Lakes, so private clients owe at least $16.90.

About 4.1% of Mono County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. California's 12-month average was 5.3%. Month by month, the county rate shifted between 3.2% and 5.1%, and with work that uneven a client's authorized hours through IHSS in Mono County give a provider income that does not depend on the time of year.

How to enroll as a provider in Mono County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Mono County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Mono County

Doing non-medical work for a Mono County household that employs you directly requires no state license. Registration as a home care aide only comes into it when a licensed agency is your employer, and the state file shows no such agency in the county. IHSS has two parts here. County Social Services, (760) 924-1770, handles applications and authorized hours. Community Service Solutions, a contractor, has run the county's IHSS provider registry since 2002 and walks new providers through enrollment: return the SOC 426 form before orientation, get fingerprinted through Live Scan (cash or check), bring a photo ID and a Social Security card or birth certificate to orientation, then sign the SOC 846. All of it must be done within 90 days. For a hospital aide post, expect to be asked for CDPH certification as a nurse assistant. The long version is in California caregiver requirements.
