Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Mariposa County

The Department of Finance estimated Mariposa County's population at 16,846 on January 1, 2026, and its E-1 table lists no incorporated city in the county, so every resident lives in an unincorporated community. Most services sit in the town of Mariposa: the Health and Human Services Agency at 5362 Lemee Lane runs IHSS, Adult Protective Services and the IHSS Public Authority, and John C. Fremont Healthcare District runs its hospital, nursing wing and clinics on Hospital Road. The district's Northside Clinic in Coulterville opens on Wednesdays.

Older residents make up a large share of the county. ACS 2020–2024 counts 5,073 people aged 65 or older, 29.7% of the population, and a median age of 51.2; almost half of households (45.9%) include someone 65 or over, and 1,177 households are an older man or woman living alone. Workers here average 33.9 minutes to reach their job, and just 2.0% ride public transit. Your profile should name the communities you can reach.

    Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Mariposa County

Three kinds of work turn up. IHSS pays a provider hired by a Medi-Cal eligible client who is over 65, blind or disabled, for the hours the county authorizes; the client is the employer of record. John C. Fremont's 16-bed skilled nursing unit, the Ewing Wing, counts nursing assistants in each resident's care team. Private families ask for meals, bathing, housework and rides. Newcomers can build references through the county's Friendly Visitor Program, which pairs adult volunteers with isolated residents 65 and over for a weekly visit.

    • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
    • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
    • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
    • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
    • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
    • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
    • Overnight: supervision through the night.
    • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
    Pay

Caregiver pay in Mariposa County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mariposa and six other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

    MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mariposa and six other counties)$16.52 median ($17.48 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 2,220 jobs; concentration 1.27× national
IHSS provider wage, Mariposa County$17.50CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
    California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Mariposa and six other counties)$22.79 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS does not publish Mariposa County wages on their own; its May 2025 survey puts the county in the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode nonmetropolitan area with Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mono and Tuolumne, where 2,220 home health and personal care aides earned a $16.52 median and a $17.48 mean, and nursing assistants a $22.79 median. CDSS lists $17.50 an hour for Mariposa County IHSS providers from January 1, 2026, 60 cents above the $16.90 state minimum. UC Berkeley's inventory of local wage ordinances has no entry for Mariposa, so the state rate is the floor for private jobs, and a household that employs you directly as a personal attendant owes time and a half past nine hours in a day or 45 in a week.

About 6.0% of Mariposa County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% for California; the monthly figure moved between 5.1% and 7.7%. The authorized hours of IHSS in Mariposa County are a steady base for a caregiver to build on.

How to enroll as a provider in Mariposa County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Mariposa County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

    Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Mariposa County

Direct, non-medical work for a family needs no state license. The Home Care Aide Registry comes in only when a licensed home care agency is your employer, and the state licensing file lists no home care organization in Mariposa County. To be paid through IHSS, begin with the county's online provider orientation: watch the enrollment videos, complete the forms and book Live Scan fingerprints. Then call the Public Authority enrollment line, (209) 742-0985, for an in-office appointment; these are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Bring a government photo ID and your original Social Security card; a photocopy is not accepted. When the Department of Justice clears you, the county mails form SOC 2271 with your provider number, and you can register for electronic timesheets. You are also a mandated reporter of elder abuse.
