IHSS Mariposa County: the Mariposa office on Lemee Lane, phone numbers and $17.50 pay
Mariposa County operates In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), and the Public Authority that supports its providers, out of one Health and Human Services building at 5362 Lemee Lane in the town of Mariposa. This guide lists the IHSS Mariposa County phone numbers, how a family applies, the steps a new provider follows from the online orientation to the in-office appointment, the hourly wage, and the one Live Scan site in the county. Every detail was confirmed against Mariposa County and California state websites on October 16, 2026.

What IHSS covers in Mariposa County
Mariposa County's IHSS web page says the program authorizes services for Medi-Cal eligible residents over 65 and for blind or disabled people, with the aim of keeping each of them safe at home for as long as possible and putting off or avoiding a move to skilled nursing or a board and care facility. The page adds two smaller groups: children of low-income families whose parent is the caregiver, and disabled people whose spouse is able and available to provide care. For those two groups, essential domestic services are not paid.
The county's IHSS Consumer Handbook (sections dated November 2020) defines home broadly: a relative's home, a hotel, an apartment or a house all count. The handbook describes IHSS as a Medi-Cal program funded jointly by federal, state and county dollars, and says people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or meet all Medi-Cal income rules may qualify. The handbook lists what a provider can be paid for:
- help with bathing, dressing, eating and using the toilet;
- paramedical tasks, for example injections, wound care and catheter care, under the direction of a licensed medical professional;
- house cleaning, cooking, shopping and laundry;
- going with the recipient to and from medical appointments.
It is just as specific about what IHSS will not cover: gardening, repairs, pet care (service animals included), bill paying, reading mail aloud, moving furniture, social outings, and sitting with someone for company or TV. The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) adds the statewide conditions: the recipient must have a Medi-Cal eligibility determination, live in California, live at home or in a place they chose as home, and get a Health Care Certification (SOC 873) to the county before the county authorizes anything.
How to apply: IHSS Mariposa County phone numbers and office
The IHSS office shares the Health and Human Services address: 5362 Lemee Lane, Mariposa, CA 95338 (mail goes to PO Box 99, Mariposa, CA 95338). IHSS office hours are weekdays from 8 am until 5 pm, except county holidays. The county publishes more than one number, so here is what each is for:
| Line | Number | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| IHSS unit (toll-free) | 1-833-423-0816 | Applying, authorized hours, payroll and timesheets |
| Health and Human Services main line | 209-966-2000 or 800-266-3609 | Eligibility; ask for the IHSS clerk or IHSS Provider clerk |
| Public Authority enrollment line | (209) 742-0985 | Provider enrollment questions only |
| IHSS fax | 209-742-0994 | Paperwork to the IHSS unit |
The county's IHSS FAQ answers the eligibility question in one line: call (209) 966-2000 to apply. The handbook sets out what happens next:
- Intake call. A county worker gathers details about the disability, your daily needs, and your income and assets. The handbook says this can take up to 20 minutes. CDSS posts the SOC 295 application form in English plus several translations.
- Home visit. A social worker comes to the home to work out the services required and the time allowed for each, weighing your health, your household setup and any support you already have.
- Health Care Certification. Your health care provider fills in the form certifying the need for IHSS. Nothing is authorized until it is done.
- Notice of Action. The county mails a decision listing the services approved, the time for each and the total monthly hours. If you disagree, you can ask for a state hearing; the handbook gives the State Hearings Division numbers as 800-743-8525 or 855-795-0634.
After approval, CDSS puts the recipient in the employer's seat: it is the recipient who recruits, trains and oversees the provider, and who dismisses them when necessary. For first-time employers, our private caregiver hiring walkthrough covers interviewing and putting the arrangement in writing.
IHSS pay in Mariposa County: $17.50 an hour
Mariposa's line in the CDSS county wage workbook (we pulled the "IP Effective 10-1-2026" tab on October 16, 2026) shows IHSS individual providers there earning $17.50 an hour since January 1, 2026. Kings, Merced and Tulare counties list the same rate. Fifty-one counties pay more and three pay less, so Mariposa sits near the bottom of the statewide range. California's minimum wage in 2026 is $16.90, which puts the IHSS rate 60 cents above it.
| County (IHSS individual providers) | Hourly rate | Effective |
|---|---|---|
| Mono | $17.95 | January 1, 2026 |
| Madera | $17.90 | July 1, 2026 |
| Tuolumne | $17.90 | January 1, 2026 |
| Mariposa | $17.50 | January 1, 2026 |
| Merced | $17.50 | January 1, 2026 |
| State minimum wage (DIR) | $16.90 | January 1, 2026 |
CDSS attributes the county-to-county spread to separate union bargaining in every county. Pay follows the county holding the recipient's case: a Mariposa caregiver working for a Madera or Tuolumne County client earns the Madera or Tuolumne figure. Paychecks come from the state, and it deducts disability insurance and Social Security if a provider is eligible. Neither the county pages nor the handbook we read name the union or say whether providers get health benefits; ask the Public Authority.
About 6.0% of Mariposa County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates; the statewide figure was 5.3%. Mariposa has no local wage ordinance in the Labor Center inventory UC Berkeley updated on September 30, 2026; a private caregiver hired in the county is owed at least California's $16.90. Our county-by-county IHSS wage table lists all the others.
Becoming an IHSS provider in Mariposa County
Mariposa's IHSS Provider Orientation page says the web orientation is for Mariposa County providers only and that state law requires enrollment and a DOJ background check before IHSS can pay you. Its steps:
- Online orientation. Use the "Continue to Enrollment" link on the county page. You watch the required enrollment videos, complete some enrollment forms electronically and schedule your Live Scan appointment.
- Book the in-office appointment. After your Live Scan is scheduled, call the Public Authority on (209) 742-0985 to book the enrollment appointment. These are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. To move one, call 1-833-423-0816.
- Bring original ID. A valid government-issued photo ID, driver's license or US passport, and your original Social Security card with the same name as your ID. Copies are not accepted, and missing documents mean rescheduling.
- At the appointment. Staff scan both documents, and you sign the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification and the NVRA voter preference form.
- Linking paperwork. If you already know whom you will work for, pick up the linking packet at the Health and Human Services front desk or have it mailed. It contains the SOC 426A, PA-21, DE 4 and IRS W-4, which record that the recipient hired you, set your start date and start payroll. Return it to the front desk or the drop box.
- Provider number. After DOJ clearance and data entry, an SOC 2271 arrives in the mail with your IHSS provider number. Then you can register for electronic timesheets.
The county's Q&A adds three points. A background check done for another job does not count; everyone needs a new one. One enrollment covers any number of IHSS recipients. Providers who have gone over a year without an IHSS payment should call (209) 742-0985, since staff can confirm whether a repeat enrollment is needed. State-level requirements are summarized in our IHSS provider enrollment overview, and relatives hired by a family member should look at our guide to paid family caregiving.
Live Scan fingerprinting in Mariposa
The Attorney General's Live Scan directory lists one public site in Mariposa County:
| Site | Address and phone | Days and hours | Rolling fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mariposa County Sheriff's Office | 5284 Highway 49 N., Mariposa, CA 95338; (209) 966-3615 | Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, appointment only | $5.00 |
The DOJ notes that the rolling fee pays the Live Scan operator only; DOJ and FBI charges are billed on top, and other costs may be added, so ask the Public Authority what you will owe before you go.
Timesheets, late checks and sick leave for Mariposa providers
- Electronic Services Portal. Register at www.etimesheets.ihss.ca.gov with the "Register Here" link once you have your provider number. Providers use it for timesheets, payment tracking, direct deposit sign-up and sick leave requests; recipients approve or reject timesheets.
- Telephone Timesheet System. The handbook explains that recipients, including those who need accommodations for blindness or low vision, can register for and approve timesheets by phone at (833) DIAL-EVV, (833) 342-5388.
- Help desk. Call (866) 376-7066, the state IHSS Service Desk, during weekday business hours (8 am-5 pm).
- Late check. The county FAQ says to wait two weeks after submitting the timesheet, then call (209) 966-2000 and ask for the IHSS Provider clerk.
- Share of cost. Some recipients owe a monthly share of cost before Medi-Cal pays. The handbook explains that any unpaid amount is subtracted from the first provider timesheet the county processes, so the recipient pays that part to the provider directly.
- Sick leave. CDSS gives providers 40 paid sick hours for 2026/27, starting July 1, 2026, once 100 hours of authorized work are done. Claim online or on the paper SOC 2302; unused hours expire June 30.

Care work in Mariposa County beyond IHSS hours
When Senior Services recruited for the county Commission on Aging, its notice named communities in four supervisorial districts, among them Yosemite, El Portal, Midpines, Wawona, Greeley Hill, Coulterville, Lake Don Pedro, Catheys Valley, Hornitos and Bear Valley. Posting a job on CaregiverConnect costs a Mariposa family nothing. Caregivers answer the listing on their own; the family selects one and becomes the employer, and caregiver earnings carry no commission. CaregiverConnect doesn't screen caregivers itself, though anyone who has had a background check can upload the proof. Mariposa families can add features through optional paid plans; to estimate monthly costs, see our California home care cost breakdown. Job listings on the Mariposa pages change whenever families publish new ones. For cases held next door, see IHSS in Madera County or IHSS in Tuolumne County.
