Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Camarillo

Camarillo lies in Pleasant Valley at the eastern end of the Oxnard Plain, with the Conejo Grade rising toward Thousand Oaks to the east and the plain opening toward Oxnard to the west. The Ventura Freeway cuts through Old Town, so caregivers living in Oxnard, Ventura or Newbury Park can usually reach Camarillo clients without crossing the whole county. Postings above refresh as Camarillo households publish them, each with its distance from you, and you can extend your radius toward Oxnard if you live on that side.

Older households set the pattern of work: 42.1% of Camarillo households include someone 65 or older, and 14.3% are a person of that age living alone (ACS 2020–2024), so regular weekday visits are as likely as short-notice requests. In your profile, note any dementia, Parkinson's or stroke experience, since those are the conditions the local adult day program is built around, and list languages: Spanish is spoken at home by 14.5% of residents, Tagalog by about 1,400 people and Korean by about 700.

Types of caregiver jobs in Camarillo

Camarillo families tend to ask for daytime companionship and supervision for a parent with memory loss, help with showers and dressing, meal preparation, transport to appointments and to the Health Care District's programs on Las Posas Road, and a few weeks of support once someone is discharged from St. John's Hospital Camarillo. Newcomers can start with companionship, errands and housekeeping; personal care, transfers and overnight dementia care generally go to caregivers with a nurse assistant certificate or a track record.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Camarillo: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Oxnard–Thousand Oaks–Ventura, CA metro (Ventura County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Oxnard–Thousand Oaks–Ventura, CA metro (Ventura County)$16.50 median ($17.88 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 15,250 jobs; concentration 1.7× national
IHSS provider wage, Ventura County$20.97CDSS; effective July 1, 2026

Nursing assistants, Oxnard–Thousand Oaks–Ventura, CA metro (Ventura County)$22.50 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Camarillo is missing from the Labor Center at UC Berkeley's roster of cities with their own minimum wage, which leaves California's $16.90 in force. Ventura County's IHSS wage is $20.97 from July 1, 2026, more than $4 above the $16.50 aide median for the Oxnard–Thousand Oaks–Ventura metro, where 15,250 people work as home health and personal care aides. The median Camarillo household earns $113,428 a year (ACS 2020–2024), and families paying privately often match or beat the IHSS rate for reliable weekday help. Ask more for dementia supervision, nights and driving, and write the overtime rule for personal attendants (paid at 1.5 times the regular rate for hour ten onward in a day and hour 46 onward in a week) into the agreement.

How to enroll as a provider in Ventura County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Ventura County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Camarillo

Non-medical care hired directly by a Camarillo family requires no license. An agency that employs you has to enter your name on the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry; independents may register voluntarily for $35 plus Live Scan. To be paid through IHSS, contact the Ventura County IHSS Public Authority on 805-654-3416. Family members and friends selected by a client go through a non-registry orientation; caregivers seeking referrals attend a registry session in Ventura, the closer of the two locations for Camarillo, then submit ID, an original Social Security card and a Live Scan check they pay for, and take a phone interview. Working as a CNA at St. John's Hospital Camarillo or in a nursing facility requires CDPH certification. See the California caregiver requirements and the Ventura County IHSS guide.
