How to find an in-home caregiver in Lakeport

Start by deciding what kind of help you need, because Lakeport has more than one option. In the state files, Lakeport's only licensed home care organization is Home With Us, at 923 19th Street, which sends non-medical aides; Sutter Care at Home, the CDPH-licensed home health agency on Hill Road East; and Hospice Services of Lake County on Parallel Drive. A private caregiver found here can fill the hours between those visits or take the place of an agency, with the schedule and tasks set by you.

The city is small, 4,923 people in the January 2026 state estimate, and in ACS 2020–2024 roughly one Lakeport household in five is a lone resident aged 65-plus. Spell out the duties, the hours and any driving; Lake Transit's Route 8 loops through town about once an hour, so a caregiver who rides the bus can reach many addresses, but not at every hour. Profiles and requests change as people sign up, so check back during the week after posting.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Lakeport

Ask applicants which paperwork they hold and confirm it. Agency aides need a current Home Care Aide Registry entry (CDSS has a public lookup), while an independent may or may not have one. CNAs carry a CDPH certificate; LCOE's Lakeport course sends its students to Rocky Point Care Center for clinical practice, which a local applicant may mention. An IHSS provider has completed Lake County's enrollment, including an in-person orientation and fingerprinting. After that, phone a pair of references, have your parent join the interview with questions of their own, and pay for a first visit as a trial before agreeing regular hours. CaregiverConnect does no vetting of any kind. Any background report is your family's to request, and only with the applicant's written agreement.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Have you cared for anyone discharged from Rocky Point, Lakeport Post Acute or Sutter Lakeside, and what did the first week at home involve?
  • If Sutter Care at Home nurses or the hospice team visit too, how will you keep them informed about changes you see?
  • Do you drive? If not, which Route 8 stop is closest to our house?
  • My father uses dialysis on Peckham Court three days a week. Could you take him and wait?
  • Do you have a Registry number from an agency job, or a Lake County IHSS provider number?
  • Mom sometimes pushes away her pills and her plate. What has worked for you before?
  • If you are sick on a Tuesday morning, who calls whom, and how early?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Lakeport: hourly rates and schedules

With so many Lakeport seniors living alone, the most common pattern is a daily or near-daily visit: two or three hours in the morning for bathing, dressing, breakfast and pills, or a late-afternoon visit for supper and a check before night. A parent on dialysis or in hospice may need longer blocks on set days. Weekend cover for an adult son or daughter who handles weekdays is also a common request; post it as its own job if the hours differ.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Lakeport has no local wage law in Berkeley's July 2026 inventory, which leaves $16.90 as the minimum for a caregiver you hire. BLS pools Lake with Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino for wage data and found a $16.74 aide median there in May 2025, a little under the $17.55 that Lake County IHSS pays. Weigh those against the $40 hourly agency median CareScout published for California in 2025 if you are comparing Home With Us or another agency with a direct hire. Hire a personal attendant directly and California law adds 50% to the rate for any tenth hour worked in a day, and from hour 46 of a week. A parent with Medi-Cal may be eligible for IHSS hours; phone Lake County Adult Services, (707) 995-4680, before budgeting.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
