How to find an in-home caregiver in Oxnard

Spanish dominates at home in Oxnard: ACS 2020–2024 puts it at 60.7% of people over four, with 26.4% of them Spanish speakers whose English is limited. When your parent would rather talk in Spanish, or in an Indigenous language such as Mixteco, Zapoteco, Purépecha or Triqui, write that at the top of your post; caregivers search for those words. Post under your parent's ZIP code (93030, 93033, 93035 or 93036) with the hours, tasks and any medical background, such as a recent stay at St. John's Regional Medical Center. Caregivers in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Camarillo and Ventura whose radius reaches you will be notified, and the profiles above update as caregivers join.

If a relative already provides care unpaid and your parent qualifies for IHSS, that relative can be enrolled as the paid provider and a private caregiver hired only for the remaining hours.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Oxnard

Three credentials are checkable. Ventura County IHSS providers, whether family members or registry caregivers, have passed a Live Scan criminal background check, and registry providers have also had a phone interview with the Public Authority. Agency-employed aides must hold a Home Care Aide Registry listing; independent caregivers can choose to get one. Certified nursing assistants are certified by CDPH. After checking credentials, phone two previous families or employers, hold the interview in your parent's preferred language with your parent there, and pay for a trial shift. A background report needs the caregiver's written consent and is arranged by you: CaregiverConnect performs no vetting, and Verified on a profile reflects an upload, not an investigation.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • ¿Habla usted español con mi mamá, y lee las instrucciones del hospital en español?
  • Do you speak Mixteco or another Indigenous language?
  • Have you cared for someone discharged from St. John's Regional Medical Center?
  • Which credentials do you hold: IHSS enrollment here, CNA, or Home Care Aide Registry?
  • Would you accompany my father to the Wilson or Palm Vista senior center for meals?
  • Would you work alongside my sister, who cares for Mom in the evenings?
  • Your hourly rate, please, and does it change on Saturdays?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Oxnard: hourly rates and schedules

Oxnard posts often cover weekday hours when everyone of working age has left the house, sometimes with an early start so a parent is not alone when the household leaves. Others are for a few hours of bathing and personal care each morning, a weekend shift so the family member who usually provides care can rest, or overnight help after a hospital stay.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Oxnard uses the state minimum wage of $16.90; no local ordinance raises it. Ventura County IHSS pays $20.97 an hour, the metro's aides earn a $16.50 median wage, and California agencies bill a $40 median. With a median household income of $96,212 in the city (ACS 2020–2024), the IHSS route is worth checking first if your parent is on Medi-Cal; a relative can be the paid provider. Private hires usually land between the IHSS and agency rates; overtime covers any hours beyond nine daily or 45 weekly.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
