How to find an in-home caregiver in Soledad
In Soledad, home care usually means fitting help around a busy household. The census counts 4,749 homes in the city with an average of 4.16 people, and nearly one in five (892) has a resident aged 65-plus, per ACS 2020–2024. Grown children often work long days, so the gap a caregiver fills is the weekday: bathing and breakfast, lunch, a ride to the doctor, someone present until the family is back. Write the hours you need as exact times, and say whether the person you are caring for lives with you or alone; 163 older Soledad residents live by themselves.
Language comes next. Spanish is spoken at home by 65.6% of Soledad residents over age four, and for 27.3% English is a struggle, by the census measure (ACS 2020–2024; the count includes people held in the city's two state prisons). If your mother is most comfortable in Spanish, put that first. Mention, too, which clinic she uses: Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas on Front Street, Soledad Medical Clinic on Main Street, or the dialysis center on Nestles Road. Caregivers judge the job by the route as much as the pay. New profiles appear as caregivers join, so check back after you post.

Evaluating caregivers in Soledad
Ask what each applicant can document. Agency-employed aides must be enrolled with the CDSS registry for home care aides, so search the name there; an independent may or may not have joined it. Nursing assistant certificates come from CDPH, so ask a CNA for the number, and ask anyone who has worked at Eden Valley Care Center or a similar facility how they handled transfers, skin checks and residents with dementia. An enrolled Monterey County IHSS provider has already sat through the county's orientation and been fingerprinted. After the paperwork, phone two former clients or employers, introduce the applicant to your parent over coffee, and book one paid trial visit. CaregiverConnect runs no screening or background checks; you may buy a background report yourself, and only with the applicant's signed consent.
Questions families here ask at interview

- Have you cared for someone who goes to dialysis, and could you take my mother to the Nestles Road center and back?
- Do you have a car, or would you get here on MST Line 32 or Line 23?
- Would you go with my father to Clinica de Salud on Front Street and take notes for us?
- If the county grants IHSS hours, would you sign on as Dad's provider?
- Tell me how you would respond if Mom slipped in the shower and nobody else was home.
- Can you cover the hours we work, including early starts, and what happens if you are sick?
What in-home care costs in Soledad: hourly rates and schedules
Common Soledad requests: weekday mornings from early until noon while adults are at work; a long weekday block on clinic or dialysis days; a few evening hours to cook and give medications; and short-term extra hours after a nursing home stay. Weekend cover is often paid at a higher rate, and because Line 32 does not run on weekends, mention transport if you need Saturday or Sunday help.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Salinas metro (Monterey County) | $16.92 median | BLS OEWS, survey wages aged to Q1 2026 by California EDD |
| IHSS provider wage, Monterey County | $21.04 | CDSS; effective July 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Soledad has not passed a local minimum wage, according to the UC Berkeley Labor Center's tracker, which leaves $16.90 as the legal floor. The EDD's first-quarter 2026 median for aides countywide is $16.92, Monterey County pays IHSS providers $21.04, and an agency would likely bill near CareScout's $40 California median. Most private rates fall in the band between those last two numbers, higher for overnight or heavy-lifting work. The state's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights requires 150% pay for a personal attendant's hours above nine in a workday or 45 in a workweek. Given a 15.4% poverty rate among Soledad residents past 65 (ACS 2020–2024), talk to the county about IHSS and Medi-Cal before you sign up for private hours.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
