Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Soledad

Before you read any statistic about Soledad, know who it counts. The Department of Finance put the city at 27,065 people on January 1, 2026, and the census estimates that 6,586 residents (about a quarter of the ACS 2020–2024 total of 26,365) live in group quarters. Two CDCR prisons carry Soledad addresses: the Correctional Training Facility on Soledad Prison Road and Salinas Valley State Prison at 31625 Highway 101. That is why the census shows 63.6% of residents as male. The clients you would actually serve live in the 4,749 ordinary households, and 892 of those (18.8%) count a member past 65. Another 163 older residents keep house alone.

Most care work in town clusters around a short list of addresses. Eden Valley Care Center at 612 Main Street holds a license for 59 skilled nursing beds, and the state also lists Soledad Medical Clinic at 600 Main Street. Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas runs a medical and dental site at 799 Front Street, and a 25-station dialysis center operates on Nestles Road. A client on dialysis may need someone to get them to each session and settle them at home afterward. In the state's May 2025 licensing file, one home care organization, Pearl's Monterey Senior Care, gives a Hansen Circle address in Soledad, so agency work exists alongside private hiring.

Work matters a great deal here. About 10.5% of Soledad's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, against a Monterey County average of 7.4% and a statewide 5.3%. Month by month, the local estimate ranged from 7.2% to 15.9%. An older neighbor's need for help does not rise and fall with that monthly figure, and IHSS lets the county pay a relative or friend the recipient chooses. The Monterey County IHSS guide walks through enrollment.

Types of caregiver jobs in Soledad

Soledad families tend to ask for help with a parent who lives with adult children who work in the fields or commute, rides to Front Street or Main Street appointments, dialysis-day support, meals and medication reminders, and company after a stay at a nursing home. Without paid experience, begin with companion hours, cooking and errands, and add personal care once you have references.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Soledad: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Salinas, CA metro (Monterey County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Salinas, CA metro (Monterey County)$16.92 median ($17.53 mean)BLS OEWS, survey wages aged to Q1 2026 by California EDD; 6,740 jobs
IHSS provider wage, Monterey County$21.04CDSS; effective July 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Salinas, CA metro (Monterey County)$24.10 medianBLS OEWS, survey wages aged to Q1 2026 by California EDD (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

The wage figures above describe the whole Salinas metro area, which is all of Monterey County, so they say nothing special about Soledad. What is local is the floor. The UC Berkeley Labor Center's ordinance tracker has no entry for Soledad, so a private family must pay no less than California's $16.90. IHSS hours for a Soledad client pay $21.04, more than four dollars over the metro aide median of $16.92. Household budgets are mixed. The median Soledad household earns $96,862 (ACS 2020–2024), but households average 4.16 people and 15.4% of Soledad's 65-plus population falls under the poverty line, so expect some families to want only a few private hours on top of an IHSS authorization. Nursing assistants in the metro earned a $24.10 median, which is the case for training if you want facility work at Eden Valley or elsewhere.

How to enroll as a provider in Monterey County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Monterey County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Soledad

Non-medical work for a Soledad household requires no state license. Should a licensed home care organization put you on its payroll, CDSS must first add you to its Home Care Aide Registry; independents can join voluntarily. Eden Valley Care Center and other nursing facilities hire certified nursing assistants, which means finishing an approved course and passing the CDPH exam. For IHSS, enrollment runs through Monterey County, which handles provider paperwork countywide; the county lists two Aging and Adult Services offices, 730 La Guardia Street in Salinas and 116 Broadway Street in King City. Under WIC §15630 you must report suspected harm to an older or dependent client, and reports from ZIP 93960 go through 1-833-401-0832. The California caregiver requirements guide covers the details.

The area

Soledad in numbers

Because the group-quarters population skews age and sex figures, household numbers tell you more. Among the 1,262 older residents outside institutions, 18.8% report a disability (ACS 2020–2024). The city's 4,749 households are large, at 4.16 people on average, and 58.0% own their home; median gross rent is $1,698 and only 1.3% of households lack a vehicle. Language counts in the census include everyone in town, the prisons too: 65.6% of people age 5 and up use Spanish at home, and 27.3% are Spanish speakers whose English the census rates below very well. Employed residents work mostly in agriculture (26.0%) and in schools, health care and social assistance (23.4%), and 77.5% drive alone to a job that is, on average, 30 minutes away.

Hospital care is not in town; the CDPH facility list shows a nursing facility, clinics, dialysis and the prisons' correctional treatment center, but no general acute hospital with a Soledad address. The King City page covers jobs there, the Salinas page covers the county seat, and the Monterey County hub covers everything else.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Soledad: frequently asked questions

Why do census numbers for Soledad look so unusual?

Roughly one Soledad resident in four, as the census tallies them, sleeps in group quarters, and two state prisons have Soledad addresses. That inflates the male share and the population total. For a picture of possible clients, use household figures: 892 Soledad households include someone 65 or older.

Where in Soledad do caregivers and nursing assistants work?

The state lists Eden Valley Care Center, a 59-bed skilled nursing facility on Main Street, plus clinics on Main and Front Streets, a dialysis center on Nestles Road and one licensed home care organization. Most private jobs, though, are in family homes.

How much will IHSS pay me to care for someone in Soledad?

$21.04 an hour since July 1, 2026, the Monterey County rate in the CDSS table. The client's county sets the rate, so the figure is the same in Soledad as in Salinas.

Can I get around Soledad for work without a car?

On weekdays, yes. MST Line 32 loops through town every half hour between morning and early evening, and Lines 23 and 23X head to Salinas and King City. Weekend shifts need another plan, because Line 32 does not run Saturday or Sunday.

Is there a place in Soledad to start college classes?

Hartnell College has an education center at 1505 Metz Road with evening hours four nights a week. Soledad Adult School, run by Soledad Unified, offers ESL, a diploma program and HiSET preparation.

How do Soledad families find me on CaregiverConnect?
