Need is concentrated, though: 40.0% of those older residents report a disability, 16.9% live below the poverty line, and 1,015 households consist of a single resident 65 or older. Households are larger than in Monterey, 2.90 people on average against 2.10, so expect to work alongside relatives who share the home. Language is the clearest local advantage you can offer. 44.8% of Seaside residents five and older speak a language other than English at home, 35.1% speak Spanish, and about half of those Spanish speakers (49.4%) rate their English below very well. One resident in four (26.2%) was born abroad. If you are bilingual, put it in the opening line of your profile, and name any other language you can use with a client. Say too whether you drive, since a hospital visit for a Seaside client means a trip into Monterey.

Caregiver pay in Seaside: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Salinas, CA metro (Monterey County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Salinas, CA metro (Monterey County) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Monterey County | $21.04 | CDSS; effective July 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Seaside is not on the UC Berkeley Labor Center list of California cities with their own minimum wage, so the state rate of $16.90 applies. In the BLS 2025 figures for the Salinas metro, the median for home health and personal care aides was $16.50, while Monterey County IHSS pays $21.04 from July 1, 2026 and metro CNAs had a $23.50 median. Housing costs are the pressure point for caregivers who live here: median gross rent in Seaside is $2,409 a month, and 60.2% of renters put 30% or more of household income toward it (ACS 2020–2024). Price private work with that in mind, and ask for mileage when you drive a client. Personal attendants earn overtime past nine hours a day or 45 a week.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Seaside
A Seaside household can hire you for non-medical care without any license. The Home Care Aide Registry ($35, valid two years) is required only if you work for a licensed home care organization. For IHSS, Monterey County Aging and Adult Services handles enrollment: you register online through REVA, complete the provider forms and the state orientation videos, then finish at the IHSS office at 730 La Guardia Street, Salinas. After that, the Public Authority registry can refer you to recipients once you have given two professional references and passed an interview. Facility jobs at peninsula nursing homes need CDPH nursing assistant certification. Suspected abuse of an elder or dependent adult is reported to the county on 831-755-4466 by day and 831-770-7541 after hours. Statewide rules are in the California requirements guide; county steps are in our IHSS guide for Monterey County.
