Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Nevada County

Private requests are mostly for non-medical help at home: personal care, meals, housekeeping, errands and rides to appointments. Nevada County IHSS authorizes the same kinds of tasks, and the county also names escort to medical visits and protective supervision among them. A recipient may choose a friend or relative as provider, or find one through the Connecting Point registry. With a CDPH nurse assistant certificate, the county's five nursing facilities are the other path.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Nevada County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Nevada County and nine other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS reports Nevada County only inside a ten-county nonmetro region, with Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity. Across that region, BLS counted 5,000 aides in its May 2025 survey, paid a $16.50 median hourly wage ($17.00 mean); nursing assistants had a $22.66 median. Both the county IHSS page and Connecting Point give the provider rate as $18.50 an hour from January 1, 2026. UC Berkeley's inventory of local ordinances, last modified September 30, 2026, lists no Nevada County city or town, which leaves California's $16.90 as the minimum for private jobs. Personal attendants also have overtime rights under the state's domestic worker law: past nine hours on any one day, and past 45 hours in one week, the rate rises by half.

About 4.8% of Nevada County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. For California as a whole the twelve-month figure was 5.3%, putting the county under it, and its monthly rate never left the 4.2% to 5.0% range. For a provider, IHSS adds steady local hours at a rate above the regional aide median; see IHSS in Nevada County.

How to enroll as a provider in Nevada County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Nevada County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Nevada County

You can take non-medical work from a household with no California license at all. The aide registry is an agency matter, and CDSS's licensing file (May 25, 2025) shows three licensed home care organizations in the county, two in Grass Valley and one in Nevada City, with two more pending. Connecting Point runs IHSS provider enrollment for the county; its history page says the agency was set up in 2003, named then the Nevada-Sierra Regional IHSS Public Authority, and that it serves Plumas and Sierra counties as well. Call (530) 274-5601 to book an in-person appointment, bring an unexpired state-issued ID plus the original Social Security card, both in exactly the same name, then complete the Department of Justice Live Scan. Once cleared, you get a provider number and must use online or telephone timesheets. Nursing facility jobs generally require a CDPH certificate. Caregivers are mandated reporters of elder abuse. Questions

Caregiver jobs in Nevada County: frequently asked questions

Which office enrolls new IHSS providers in Nevada County?

Connecting Point, on (530) 274-5601. The county IHSS office in Nevada City, (530) 265-1639, handles applications from people who need care rather than from providers.

How much does Nevada County IHSS pay?

Since January 1, 2026, $18.50 an hour, a figure the county page and the CDSS table agree on. IHSS wages are set by the recipient's home county, so hours for someone living in Placer or Sierra County pay that county's rate instead.

Do IHSS providers here get health coverage?

Some do. Connecting Point offers a limited benefit plan to providers whose payroll shows at least 80 paid hours a month for two consecutive months.

Is there a CNA class in Nevada County?

Sierra College's nurse assistant course is currently offered only at its Rocklin campus, by its own notice. Tahoe Forest Hospital's long-term care center and the four Grass Valley nursing facilities employ CNAs once you are certified.

How do Nevada County families reach me?

They post on the Nevada County family page or one of the town pages, and the posts appear here. Joining is free for caregivers, and none of what families pay you goes to CaregiverConnect.
